Anyone else baby taken to a dummy after a year?

I tried from birth to give ds4 a dummy. He never took to it, he just never seemed to get the hang of what a dummy was all about so we gave up trying and he has never shown any interest in one at all.

Until a few days ago when he pinched ds3's. Since then he has been happily sucking away so I gave him one when he was unsettled last night and - hey presto! he took it. He is 15 months old now and dh and me are really quite gobsmacked at how happy he is with one now, when he wasn't interested before.

So, just wondered if anyone else has experienced this too? Smile

Mine became obsessed with bottles at about that age, whereas before he was a right sod to feed...

I spose he might've gone for a dummy, it never occured to me to try!

Hiya fa. Well I would never have thought to try ds4 with a dummy after all this time tbh. It's just that he pinched ds3's but I guess that's maybe part of the atraction, you know that it's not his?

It has occurred to me though to try and get him off his bottle at night. I've been trying for a couple of months now to no avail. Perhaps now he's happy to suck a dummy, he won't be too bothered about losing his bottle. That's the hope anyway!

Can't beliieve that my ds is the only late starter - no one else?

Lol he's just a funny wee man obviously... I still can't get Theo off bottles Blush he has to have one, only in the morning though, otherwise he's just hell to live with Blush

Hi QE2,

My DD1 had a dummy from early on, DD2 never wanted one, instead she has to go bed with at least 6 stuffed toys, and reguarly drags one around everywhere she goes.

I have never experienced dd2 wanting dd1's dummy. But I have with other things.

Your DS has most likely got to a stage where he is being more observant of the things around him. He has noticed that his brother has one and he wants one too. You know how children always want things that other children have got.

My dd1's fav colour is yellow, just because a girl she knows likes that colour!

It's harmless and if it's settling him down dont worry about it.

pinkdolly thankas for replying.

I'm not worried about it at all, just a bit amused that he should take to one now when he has never ever shown an interest before! He is going through a very cute stage at the minute - this just seems to add to his cuteness, bless!

Just thought I'd see if anyone else's dc's had done the same.

QE2 my DS never took to a dummy as a baby either but discovered it at about 18 months. Now he is 3.5,he has it at bedtime and we are having trouble getting him off it.
