Walking

My ds (11 months) took his first steps last Wednesday. He took 3 steps then fell on his bum Smile, the next day and day after that he did the same 2-3 steps for about 3 days. Since then he's not attempted to walk anymore. He has a cold at the moment, may this be a reason? Is it normal? Once they've taken their first steps should they be walking everyday or not necessarily?

Completely normal. Be glad he's taking his time. Grin

Thank you...is there a reason for him not attempting to walk since then do you think?

Who knows? Just doesn't feel like it?

My son rolled over at about 4 months...and then next rolled over at 8 months...they are strange little creatures. Grin

I've heard this a lot recently from friends so sounds completely normal.. Still waiting for my little one to try!

My DS learned to walk at 12 months. Then he did nothign for sevreal days until one day he was trying to crawl as usual carrying a toy in his mouth. Suddenly he stopped, thought for a second, then stood up and started walking whilst carrying the toy in his hand. After that he always walked in preference to crawling. That was 7 years ago and I remember it like yesterday.

They just need to find a use for the newly acquired walking skill!

Mine took her first steps at 16 months, and didn't walk "properly", i.e. all the time until.....17 months and 3 weeks! Grin

My DD could walk a few steps from 10 months but only this week (11 months) has actually started to walk to get anywhere - crawling is faster so she prefers it

My DD took her first steps around 10mo, but didn't properly walk (i.e. in preference to crawling/cruising) till over a year old. It's like one day she just realised she could do it, and has never looked back. But has been the same with other skills, I've never really seen her 'practise' anything, she seems to wait until she thinks she can do it.
