Sleeping on her tummy

My little girl is just about 5 months old. She is confident on her tummy during the day and can hold her head up and lift herself up on her arms fine. She has just started to roll over from her back to her tummy but can't roll back the other way yet. Trouble is she has started rolling onto her tummy at night. Last night I rolled her back onto her back twice but she flipped back again when I was asleep. She seems comfy on her tummy and so far has turned her head to the side. But I am worried sick that she will suffocate herself! There is only a fitted mattress sheet on her cot - no bumpers or blankets. But still I am worried. If I see she is on her tummy I flip her back but I can't stay awake all night. Should I worry? I am giving her plenty of tummy time and trying to tea h her to roll back onto her back. Thanks!

I think once they can roll there isn't much you can do about it. And they say not to worry as they can move their own head by then.

both mine have been tummy sleepers once they could roll.

Yeah, guess i cant stay awake all night! Worried that she can't get herself off her tummy. I spoke to my HV hoping for some reassurance but she just said to keep flipping her back until she can do it herself. That's just made me feel worse.

My 4 month old dc is a tummy sleeper. Given up Rolling her back. She seems much happier and settled on tummy and as she can move head to each side now Im not worried. It must be so annoyingly to keep getting moved back to am uncomfortable position!

DS started sleeping on his tummy at about 5 months. After 1 night of getting up continually to flip him back over, gave up and we all slept much better!! I think once they start there's not much you can do about it.

I know that's what I keep thinking every time I move her poor little thing!

MY DS has been a tummy sleeper since he was very small - maybe 8 weeks? He obviously couldn't roll but was so desperately unhappy on his back I just accepted it.

There are risks. However, I was watching Midwives this week and one of them very brazenly said that 75% of SIDS was in children considered to be 'living in poverty and usually in bed/on the sofa with their parents'. I don't want to make any assumptions or cast any aspertions (sp), but we don't fall in to that category and I am guessing that most MNers don't either.

Again I know that the research has found a link between tummy sleeping and SIDS and I'm sure the 75% prob wasn't accurate. I'm not denying that. But ultimately you follow your instincts and do what you're happy and comfortable with.

Dd1 did this from 15 weeks Shock. Nothing you can do OP HV told me not to worry....

Wish mine had told me the same! That's good to read though. She flips straight back over if I put her on her back so she obviously wants to be on her tummy!
