It depends where you are I think. I'd get this moved to special needs as lots of knowledgable people there

I work with the early intervention team on a weekly basis. They are without a doubt the most amazing, skilled & knowledgeable professionals I have ever worked with & we would be absolutely lost without them.

Basically they are a multi-disciplinary team (that may vary from borough to borough) but the team I work with includes: specialist teachers, advisory teachers, educational psychologists,& SEN teachers who might have specialists in a particular training i.e Autism.

What happens with your application really depends on your situation- if your child is attending a nursery, whether they have already have a diagnosis etc...

They support parents/teachers/practitioners to make plans & strategies to support children with different areas of their development. So if your child was attending a nursery they would work with both you & the nursery to think about routines, how the adults interact, resources. They will get as much information as they can so their plans fit in with your child's context. They would observe your child to see how he interacts with the environment & the people within it- to inform their plans.

They support you with the diagnosis process, help explain information & assessments.
