How do you make your baby laugh?

We want to make DS laugh! He's 9 months and has been laughing since about 3 months but proper bellylaughs are few and far between - he grins a lot instead. He seems to become jaded at things - he likes peekaboo and it made him laugh at first, now he just smiles - and yesterday he laughed his head off at the cat leaping at a cat toy, but having seen it again today he's a bit "yeah whatever".

Cue me and DP leaping around like loons, puttin gobjects on our heads, making daft noises etc. and DS just giving us indulgent smiles. We never know what will really set him off. So please tell me what makes your baby laugh?

tickles.... and lots of them.... we take every chance we can for a quick tickle session!

Nemo1977 · 15/03/2006 22:57

Ds used to love rasberry blowing on his cheeks or tummy.

biglips · 15/03/2006 22:57

my DD is soooo ticklist esp on her chest (like mummy) and also when we do peek a boo!

But once she sees her half sister who comes every fortnight... DD is in stitches and SD doesnt have to do anything!!!

biglips · 15/03/2006 22:59

oh yeah and biting her neck like a vampire with no teeth.. thats set her off

fennel · 15/03/2006 22:59

swinging them upside down.
putting on a hat.
turning your own head upside down.
just laughing, they usually join in if everyone else is laughing.

irishmum · 15/03/2006 23:00

my lo only laughs if i tickle him kinna "hard" underneath his chin.hope this comment doesn't stop the thread!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/03/2006 23:01

Raspberry blowing on DS's tummy.
Tickling his chest/bare belly/back of neck/under chin
Doing something/looking at something and feigning shock or surprise.

The one thing that DS laughs at the most is his big sister. She just has to smile at him and he laughs. Whatever she does, he laughs. Its truly beautiful tbh.

biglips · 15/03/2006 23:01

also try and laff loud and dd join in too - HA HA HA HA HA !!!!!!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/03/2006 23:02

Swinging them upside down fennel?

zippitippitoes · 15/03/2006 23:03

just novelty and things that are "wrong"

pretty much like you really

clowning generally

Twiga · 15/03/2006 23:03

My face seems to be enough at the min (she's 6 months and easily pleased!) Blush. Dh has a goatee and rubbing his chin on her feet, neck and tummy also do the trick.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 15/03/2006 23:08

My 6 mo. old can't stop laughing at her 2 & 1/2 yr. old brother. If he's not around big raspberries on her chubby little cheeks seem to do it.

fennel · 15/03/2006 23:10

yes, why not VVV? aren't you supposed to? dd3 absolutely adores it

Twiga · 15/03/2006 23:13

Our dd likes being dangled over our heads and lifted up and down - need to be careful with this one, puke in the eye is sore Grin!

aprilmeadow · 15/03/2006 23:29

sneezing or blowing your nose makes my ds (11mths) laugh

Eve2005 · 15/03/2006 23:32

peek-a-boo!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/03/2006 23:34

Visions of you swinging your baby by its ankles LOL!

fennel · 15/03/2006 23:46

yes that's right VVV. not with a newborn but an older baby.

sunchowder · 15/03/2006 23:49

I used to shove her foot in my mouththat cracked her right up. I also used lots of hats and propsshe loved when I put my hair up in a towel and rocked her singing rockabye baby and then falling over with her in my arms. Anything where she got to anticipate really cracked her up. I also used to sing "You give me Fever" done in the Peggy Lee style. Hummm....what else....she used to love this: We would ask her to blow like she was blowing out a candle and then I would get her brother to fall down in front of her--like she was blowing him down. She would laugh for twenty minutes over that!

snowleopard · 15/03/2006 23:52

Oooh thanks everyone. Looks like we need to procreate again and make a comedy sibling! Have dome some of these but DS is like a little buddha - just does his knowing smile most of the time. But keep them coming, I'm going to try some of these tomorrow.

fall over, that always cracks my dd up, meanwhile i'm lying bleeding on the ground with a mild concussion!

when we were putting up the xmas tree i dropped a bauble on the ground and it bounced, she laughed so hard she hiccuped. had to spend the rest of the day pretending to drop them!

Melpomene · 16/03/2006 00:05

One of dd2's favourite games:

When dd2 is sitting in her highchair, I give her a cuddly toy and she throws it on the floor. I then 'make' the cuddly toy say "Ow!", pick itself up and walk back to the highchair and then the cuddly toy climbs up the side of the highchair with exaggerated panting and puffing until it reaches the highchair tray and breathes a big sigh of relief. At which point, dd2 throws it onto the floor again.

Repeat ad infinitum.

DD2 is 10 months and this has her in hysterics.

I also second what other posters have said about older siblings.

Melpomene · 16/03/2006 00:07

Also swinging on a swing at the playground - I stand in front of her while she is swinging and tickle her toes or thighs each time she comes near me.
