Babies singing along

Ds, 15 months, has always been very aural and verbal. He has quite a few words now - probably about 12. Like every child I've met he loves music and dancing but one thing he does that none of the other babies we know do is sing the actual tune. So today he hummed the first line of Twinkle Twinkle and he regularly sings Baa baa black sheep. There are lots of other examples. Is this normal?

Dh's family are very musical so it's likely just that but we are trying to work out if he is strangely ahead or just slightly so. On other things he is completely average like other children so eg he crawled and walked at a average time and there are things he doesn't really do that other children his age can eg one of his friends does lots of the actions for nursery rhymes which ds does not do at all (although I see a good double act for the two of them in their future! Grin)

Just interested in whether other 15 month babies sing so recognisably or not.i do not know enough of them to sense if this is genuinely unusual.

my ds did from the same age. but has only just started talking properly a year later.

he still loves singing and he sings while his one year old sister dances its very cute.

i think its pretty normal i would encourage it and bit a kiddy xylophone.

Grin kiddy piano. Kiddy drum. Kiddy xylophone....we have it all! I love ds but am fairly confident he's just a normal little boy. But it is hard to gauge their potential strengths at this age. I think this is where nature is brilliant - there's time to figure things out slowly!! Wink

The talking is funny because he is so far ahead of our little group - the rest of them all have babies who are much more physical - climbing or putting shapes into things etc while ds is wandering around ignoring those and saying "hi", blowing kisses and letting people know if he wants to throw ball or go for a walk on his bike!

Two of mine sang in tune from before they could speak. They are musical, as dh is, but the other one who is only recently beginning to sing in tune, has signs of a beautiful alto voice, and I think is as musical.

Dh has perfect pitch and couldn't sing in tune until he was about 12yo, so it's not an absolute sign.

The only thing it probably means that they won't be tone deaf Grin

Dd was trying to sing from 5 months Grin she just loved it and could sing a nursery rhyme approximately from before 15 months. It's so cute. Now she gets in the car from nursery and sings me whole new songs she has learned GrinGrin

I have a just two year old that can song along beautifully in tune to whole albums in the car. He sang a long time before he could talk, since he was about 15/16 months and has always been in tune.

He is a particular fan of Plan B and Fleetwood Mac
