My DS1 wore night time nappies until age 6 (dry in the day at 26m), whereas DD has been dry at night since she was dry in the day. Boys tend to be later I think.

My DS1 was similar and also was 6-7 before totally accident free. Try getting to drink more liquids earlier on in the day and then not giving him a drink in last 1.5-2 hours before bed. That helped.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 04/09/2012 20:30

This is very very normal for boys.
I have worried about my ds who is 5 and nowehere near able to do without pyjama pants; he has ASD so you would expect him to be later getting the hang of it in any event. But I have been assured that even in an NT little boy, a referral to deal with night-time wetting wouldn't be appropriate before the age of 7.

Its very very normal. I'd put him in pull-ups at night. I spoke to my HV about this and she said they don't even investigate until a child is 7 as its so common but of course people don't really talk about it.

Dd was just short of five before dry at night. We tried the no drinks before bed, lifting. In the end she did it in her own time. Agree that it isnt considered an issue untill 7/8.

Thanks all
He's just started nursery, and didn't want a Hmm from teacher for not managing to get him dry yet
I've got him some pj nappies, for now....

I have three boys, and all of the, took longer to be dry during the night than during the day.

Just keep him in pj nappies until he says he doesn't want them anymore.

DD was 6 before being dry at night whereas DS was just over 4. Different kids, different bodies.

TyrionTheImp · 06/09/2012 13:30

It's a hormonal thing bear in mind. You can't train them in the same way you can for daytime dryness. They need to produce a hormone which allows them to hold on in their sleep. If they don't produce it, they don't hold on. Suddenly you'll find that his pj nappies are dry consistently and you'll virtually be there. He's very young for it to be of any concern at all.

Trioofprinces · 06/09/2012 13:37

DS2 was dry at day and night all at once just before he was 3. DS1 on the other hand was dry in the day at 24mtha but not dry at night until he was 6. I was assured that it was not a problem with boys until they were 7 or 8 and to be honest it just happened. He was physically incapable of waking up for a wee before that.

Don't worry about it for another couple of years. PJ pants are the way to go for now.

Houseworkprocrastinator · 06/09/2012 13:40

I agree there isn't anything you can do to "train" them to be dry at night it is biological. My first was nearly 3 (couple of months after being day time dry) but my second was dry at night just after turning 2 a good 4 months before she was dry during the day simply because she didn't have to wee at night not because she had any control.
It's like forcing their hair to grow so don't worry about it.

Indith · 06/09/2012 13:41

As others have said don't stress at all. Just let him wear nappies at night. It is not a medical issue until at least 7. Staying dry in the day and dry at night are completely separate things. Being dry at night needs the body to start producing a particular hormone and this may not happen until around around 7 years old.

Tgger · 07/09/2012 19:40

He's still very little. DS only just dry at night at 5, nearly 6. Tried it with DD but not worth the stress (she's nearly 4). It was actually very easy with DS as he was ready, only a few wet beds. I am all for easy Smile and you don't have to tell nursery staff Smile. Mine just wore/wear size 5 or 6 pull ups and they are fine.
