Are they stroppy little impolite 'teenagers'. He has an older brother so is picking up his behaviour, but the way he talks with his to e of voice is really stroppy, will school help?!

My 4 year old charge is stroppy / argumentative / with an awful attitude. However thankfully that's only 8% of the boy. Thankfully with firm boundaries and lots of praise he's generally gorgeous.

Do u know my ds?!?!

Until recently, say about 6 months ago ds 4.3 was easy going, take him any where & easy to be around.

Hes gradually changed and now hes like a mini teenager! Constantly testing boundaries, cheeky and very stubborn,

Im hoping its a phase, any advice greatly appreciated!

Same here, ds has such an attitude, he's a mini teenager. Answers back, and tries to negotiate on everything. Tries to do exactly what he wants despite us telling him to do/not do something. 'Sorry, it was an accident' gets said by him often. Selective hearing. Big sighs and 'tch, oooouuuhh' exclamations about things. Over excitement and behaving like a complete loon around friends.
Do I need to go on?
Absolutely lovely the rest if the time Hmm

We had a little phase but short lived with firm boundaries (and lots of praise too).

She has an older brother too. Bless him, he has been fully on board and very good at showing the right example however exasperated he was with her.
We achieved that by giving him a few grown up privileges as a bribe incentive.

DD1 is 4. Last week she yelled at me very seriously that she was going to call the police to kill me as I had asked her to eat her vegetables before I would give her her pudding. I think that just about sums up my experiences of parenting a 4 year old.

Minstrelsaremarvellous · 03/09/2012 05:08

Obviously I'm not alone! Grin
My DD is 4 going on lippy 14! We are pretty clear with boundaries etc but.....
Eye rolling is my DH's least favourite thing she does. Ignoring me is mine. Grrrr. While its only 10% of the time she's like this, it's this I remember!

She starts school tomorrow. Tick tock tick tock!

whyme2 · 03/09/2012 06:48

There does seem something teenagerish about a four year old. Currently my four year old is very good as sighing and starting every sentance with "But Mummy" and then some explanation of why she cannot possibly do as I have asked.

She is off to school on Thursday!

tanfastic · 03/09/2012 06:51

Four going on fourteen Hmm. They all sound very similar!

surroundedbyblondes · 03/09/2012 06:55

DD1 is almost 4, but in a preschool group with children mainly 6 months to a year older than her... so I'm guessing she follows their lead in a lot of ways.
Sighing, negotiating, refusing to co-operate. Hugely selective hearing. An answer for EVERYTHING. An opinion on EVERYTHING.
But also sweet, kind, funny, insightful and for 99% of the time the best big sister in the whole world!

sadnanny · 03/09/2012 20:07

I was speaking to DC earlier and apparently I was annoying him.

firawla · 03/09/2012 21:16

yup mine can be like this too

Stepmumm · 03/09/2012 22:41

Good to hear its not just us, roll on school!
