How long does it take your tot to fall asleep at night?

Just concerned that DD's overstimulated as it's taking her about 40-45 mins at the moment. At worst an hour. We do the same routine every night: Dinner, bath, pyjamas, milk (often listening to soothing music), story in bed, lights out.

She's 18 months. Any tips/ideas?

Is that 45 minutes from when you put her down or from when you start the routine? We start DD's routine at 7 and she's usually asleep by 8. But then that includes bath, story and feed. She doesn't normally fall asleep off the feed anymore so I usually spend about 20 minutes beside her cot while she settles. DD is 12 months, I get the sense other babies fall asleep faster.

No, unfortunately I mean from lights out! 45 mins.

If ds feeds to sleep, then no time, but if he's still awake when I put him down it's 10 - 30 mins. He's 18 months. He usually sings to himself.

He will not go to sleep with me in the room. He just cries and holds his arms out.

Occasionally my 19mo falls asleep instantly, usually 10mins

Sometimes I go to check on him after 45 mins and he's lying awake

  • perfectly happy, waves at me when I go in then continues his contemplation of Teddy Confused

I don't know what is going on in his little brain

Yeah, she's not distressed or anything - usually chats away saying 'night night' to everyone and every thing she knows the name of. I'm just concerned that as her vocab increases she'll have to be saying a LOT of night nights...

I guess my main issue is that she's recently in a toddler bed and so if I leave the room she immediately gets up. I need her to learn to self-settle again but really don't know how to go about it without bars. So I've just been sitting with her until she goes off (ie for flippin' ages).
