Make-up set for 8 year old?

My dd is 8 soon and desperately wants her own make up set. Her two best friends have make-up and dd keeps taking mine. I have mixed feelings but I suppose it's ok for playing around with and the odd party. Any thoughts?

Also, if I do get her one, I would like it to be fairly decent, natural stuff that won't harm her skin. Any recommendations?

Thanks.

My dd (7) was deseperate for some make up last Xmas so when Boots got in Xmas gifts they had a lot of little make up kits which were aimed at young people; I think it was a Ruby & Millie teenage set I got her. DO Boots also still their Naturals range?

She only really uses it from time to time but I wanted her to have good quality rather than some cheap tat that would give her a rash!

Thanks northern. I feel the same that if she is going to have any, it may as well be decent stuff - will have a look in boots.

My girls (11 and 8yo) have had basic make up sets since they were 5yo for performing. What it's taught them is actually they don't particularly like it, especially foundation. They wear what is needed for the performance and it comes off afterwards.

Claires does nice sparkly eyeshadow which is great for the stage, but I get the rest of the stuff more carefully. Their foundation is actually lots of testers as our local pharmacist was changing displays when we came to get some and they just gave us all their testers-lots hadn't been used at all.

my DD has been into make up from a young age (about 6 i think), although I wasnt impressed too much I said that for parties and weekends that was fine and allowed her to have my old make up. As she got older I got her her own set and again went for the 'tweenage' style, my first make up kit type which she loved.

What Im saying (in a very long winded way) was with the right support and encouragment of when she could use it, making sure she cleaned it off after etc she got on great with it. Never got any rash or spots or anything so I think you would be safe with boots or similar style thats aimed at the younger market as I think that is a softer type designed for their skin

Thanks Ninja and DeWe. I think you are right that I should go with it rather than trying to ban it - better to teach her how to use it properly and hopefully the phase will die out (for now anyway!). Will have a Boots trip I think.
