your friend only gave you half the story?

Yorkiegirl · 14/03/2006 10:02

omega 3 oils I think. You can get them from boots and chemists

Kelly1978 · 14/03/2006 10:02

there is a thread \linkwww.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=138&threadid=144001&stamp=060226193824\here} I think they do work, but my ds is probably autistic. I'm not sure about calmign a child down.

There is good evidence that fish oils help behaviour and other brain function. Of course it does not guarantee anything.
We use Haliborange chewy omega3 + vitamin capsules, 2.0 loves them.

Donbean · 14/03/2006 21:30

yep, we too use haliborange. You can get them from anywhere, supermarket/pharmacy.
We started our monster on them in the hope that they would help with behaviour/concentration etc.
I cant say that they have helped in that way BUT he is now sleeping through 5 out of 7 nights a week and is having normal toddler behavioural problems.

utterlyconfused · 14/03/2006 21:30

How old is your ds? There are syrups, chewy capsules, swallow capsules, all in different flavours. Try any and all of them - whatever works! My ds1 is now 7 1/2 and has only been taking it since old enough to swallow capsules as hated all other versions.
Boots do 3 for 2 so worth going there as they are not cheap, but I think worth it.

jambuttie · 14/03/2006 21:35

hi

the twins are 2 and i staretd them today on hariborange syrup- well glue Wink today

fingers crossed within a few weeks we will notice a difference

OP posts:
Sherbert37 · 14/03/2006 21:40

I think it takes a month. Well done for getting the syrup down - I still have the stain on the carpet where DS2 spat his out in disgust. We use the Haliborange blackcurrant chewy ones and I have seen a difference. He was very Jekyll and Hyde at Christmas and now it seems to have evened itself out (more Hyde!).

georgia73 · 15/03/2006 09:45

Ok..I've got a question here about fish oils...I have been giving them to my dd6 for about 10 days...Well to put it mildly she has been breaking wind all the time and its absoutely vile..not a normal stinky smell...more like a stink bomb.
Do you think this is connected to the oils..I have stopped them today to see if it calms down.

jambuttie · 15/03/2006 10:18

I must try and get the chewy ones too.

DT2 refuses to take the syrup and ds1 nearly hit the roof when it was in his mouth LOL!!!!!

Have you seen the newspapers today talking about the toxins found in some Seven Seas products. They're even being withdrawn from the shops!

Metis · 15/03/2006 11:15

yea, i saw the same article in the daily mail. it too. It basically says that the chemicals foudn in their products have been linked to cancer. Whch can harm unborn babies and damage immune systems. They have even recalled there cod liver oil. What makes me so angry is how these companies go out of their way to convnice us to take fish oils only for us to then be told that we may be poisoning ourselves. Is anyone else as fustrated as i am? i give my ds eyeq smooth, but i just checked their website and they say their products do not contain any toxins. If anyone else uses eyeq check out their website. www.equazen.com

I am going to asda does anyone know if they have the chewable ones?

even asda own brand will do

OP posts:
jambuttie · 15/03/2006 13:49

ok went to asda and they have bassets chewy omega 3 for 4.99 think there are 30 "sweets" or asda own for 2.48

Hubby wants to do this too so what is best for an adult?

Also is omega 3 enough for the kids or should it be omega6?

Gosh this is getting confusing

OP posts:
mummysandy · 15/03/2006 13:58

Apparently a combination of omega 3 and omega 6 (evening primrose oil) are the most proven ones for children. eye q and efalex are the ones that have these combinations and both have been used in proper trials.

eye q do a yoghurt sachet
efalex do a chewy thing

jambuttie · 16/03/2006 09:31

maybe will switch to another then as at the moment still on haliborange syrup.

DT!(problem childWink) takes it no problem

DS1 now thinks it gives him super powers

DT2 refuses to take it but did take a little this morning after watching his brothers take it with ease

OP posts:
DominiConnor · 17/03/2006 15:55

#have you got a link for the evening primrose oil trials ?

fredly · 17/03/2006 16:53

Jambuttie, are fish oils not supposed to be used for children over 3 ?

LIZS · 17/03/2006 16:54

Some are suitable from younger than 3.

I have had my DS , 3.4 on the Efalex liquid for nearly 12 weeks now for his behavior, he couldn't sit still for more then 10 min unless he was glued to the telly ,and his speech is a little behind for his age but since taking this he has improved so much , me and DH couldn't really believe , we tell him its brain juice and that he will be able to run as fast as the big kids in nursery and he seems to accept it and has his dose and then his dinner straight away to take the taste away. He now sits and listens to stories, play nicely and can even write his name (he couldn't even hold a pen correctly 12 weeks ago) - I total recommend this ( the omega 6 oils are needed to help with behavioral) you can get a large bottle in boots for £13.99 , but this has lasted for nearly 3 months now ( that s with double dosage for 12 weeks) - Hope this help - good luck
