Toddler Phobia!

No I haven't get a phobia about toddlers (they just give me headaches!). My 2.9 DD has a complete meltdown if she sees any insect or spider. It started being funny and cute last summer but has got silly now. We've just had a new toy room built which she won't go in on her own anymore because there was a fruit fly in it last week (even cbbies can't get her in).

The worst it got was when the sun was shining into the car and she could see dust floating around - thought they were flys and went nuts.

We've tried making a joke of it, ignorring it and today I've had a bad day and shouted about it. We've read books watched programmes - have now run out of ideas - PLEASE HELP! Summer's coming fast and it will be hell.

Oh god...blast from the past.
ds practically wouldn't go out one summer because of the flys and bugs....
He had more phobias than i could count.Loud noises, balloons, countdowns of any kind,socks...the list is endless. He grew out of them slowly...(still never gonna be a bee keeper but ykwim!).
You could try books...bug catchers ...etc etc. didn't work for us but you never know
I wish you good luck... and bags of patience!

Troutpout - like the countdown phobia, I've never come across that one before, could have made new years eve very scary for him!

Will go out this afternoon on the hunt for a bug catcher, will then try and catch anything moving! I'm going to give the books another go too - so will be a good mum and take them for a library trip.

Try watching more animal orientated cartoons / movies. Our dd (2.8) went through a "mummy!!! SPIDER!!!" phase, but when we watched "A Bug's Life" everything changed. Similar with "There are Monsters under my bed!!!" - we watched "Monsters Inc" and things changed. Now when we see a spider we sing "Incy Wincy Spider" or say Hello and try not to step on them because that "would hurt and it would have to go to hospital". LOL. Ants, catepillars etc. are the same. I hate creepy crawlies too - especially spiders - but I try not to show it in front of her and pretend to talk to them whan she's around. We even give them names! It's all a little crazy but it works.
