Im looking to get some bits and bobs together for artsy play with my dd for the winter when the weather isnt as good. Does anyone have any reccomendations?

What type of paints poster or water colours? Do people use paint brushes or sponges? I know she will probaby just use her hands but Id like to have other options. What about glue for sticking things or is she too yound for that? Also any other ideas for indoor play? She is just 18 months now and alredy loves scibbling with crayons.

poster paints are more suitable than water paints. I have a variety of painting utensils. Sponges cut into shapes, chunky paint brushes, sponge type paint brushes and foam stamps [milk bottle lids with shapes cut out of funky foam]

PVA is fine for use for toddlers, it does take a little bit to dry, or pritt stick for quick stick fixes. you can also use double sided sticky tape too.

DD is 21 months and loves collages, on a dry day recently we went and collected leaves in the park to stick onto a collage, you can paint the leaves and push them onto the paper to make prints too.

Stickers are also popular, just simple dots, stars or other shapes.

playdough is always popular, it is very easy to make.

rainbow rice is also fun to play with, though it's something mummy should make and it does keep quite well.

glitter, but it makes a helluva mess. Best massaged into playdough imo!

this is a pinterest board of crafty type activities to do with DD

Have a look at The Imagination Tree. Tons of ideas on there, plus links to similar blogs.

If you save roll on deoderant containers you can put paint in them and use them as giant rollerball pens.

wildpoppy · 26/08/2012 03:09

How do you open them to do this sashh?

That pinterest board was good, will have to make a water blob next year!
Watching with interest as I'd love to know how to open a roll on.

Right, apparently some brands have bottles that just unscrew, otherwise you have to pry the ball out with a blunt knife.
