Dd1 is 2.7. She has bennbecoming increasingly difficult at bedtime for the last two months or so ( though mainly just for me) and as of is weekend very difficult to settle for her nap screaming I don't want to go to sleep, I want to come out!
She was until this point sleeping for two hours plus in the day, which explains the difficult bedtime.
Is this the writing on the wall for the nap?

mine have varied - my middle child needed a nap right up until he started school (and struggled without it for a while). My youngest was a lot like your little one - around 2.9 he started being a nightmare at bedtime so we tried dropping the nap and he went back to his old self at bedtime - I really missed the nap but he didn't apart from an occasional day he would have a quick snooze.

Agree it's a process. 2.7 y.o. DS is napping every other day now, and I think that's still probably a bit too often, though he does need at least some naps.

I always wake him after 40 mins or bedtime is seriously late (like 11pm). On days he naps, he won't get sleepy before 9.30pm (10pm if the nap is a bit late). Nap resisting is relatively rare, thankfully.

We've never had a set bedtime, though, as DS gets tired x hours after waking from his nap, so bedtime depends on when & how long he's napped for.

When we first started having non-nap days (only in the last couple of weeks) he was seriously stroppy in the afternoon and slept much worse at night. But now night sleep seems to be better on no-nap days and he copes much better in the afternoons.

About 3.5, her GPs discouraged it which was a pain as I enjoyed it at the weekend but they were looking after her during the week so I didn't get a choice.

Haylebop12 · 23/08/2012 09:11

Curious as to why a GP would discourage it? Surely if they need it they need it! Dd 3.6 still naps maybe 1 days a week!

Ok you mean grandparents not a doctor....

DS is 2 1/2 and still napping for about 2 hours and I don't see it stopping anytime soon!

gregssausageroll · 23/08/2012 09:46

11 months and his naps even as a small baby were only 40 minutes.

Girlsville · 23/08/2012 15:35

Starry eyed Mama- a montha go I couldn't see naps stopping anytime soon! Then bnedtiems became impossible and I needed to do soemthing! She would still sleep for 2.5 hours at nap if allwoed to, but so far she has had 5 days of only napping for 45mins meaning that she is asleep by 730pm every night again. Hooray!

Both were pretty much on time for their 2nd birthdays. I wish DS2 3.7 would have a nap as he turns into a monster in the afternoons but just divine in the mornings after a good sleep.
