DS is 22 months and gets extremely, unbelievably cross when he is hungry. He will get so cross that he knock whatever you have put on the table straight on the floor with a swipe of his little arm. He shouts, screams, and bangs his head sometimes on the floor Shock. I have to stealthily get a few mouthfuls in and after about five minutes he settles down and is OK.

I should make it clear that I really do not starve him :) He has meals and snacks in between and I really try and avoid him getting into the hungry state.

Should I be worried that these rages are suggestive of something awry with his blood sugar control or is this just a personality quirk?

He drinks far more than DD ever did by some considerable margin but I would say his wee output is normal, not massive.

Tbh it just sounds like a control type behaviour. If it was sugar levels I imagine he would be at times shaking/quivering, sleepy (but awake if you know what I mean). My nephew drinks gallons, however much juice you give him he will down the lot! My 4dc just drink til they've quenched their thirst. With an older child you can put consequences in place for the behaviour but not sure how you'd do this with a 22month old.
If you're concerned though, why not go to your GP who may test, or just put your mind at rest by asking questions and giving his views.

You have just described my DGD. She is the same age and was diagnosed with diabetis last week.

My dad gets really arsey when he needs feeding. Going out for meals is really hard if he's hungry;the hungrier he is, the harder he is to satisfy and you end up walking out of place after place...
Actually he has got better recently but he was probably in his early 60s before he began to grow out of it...

Protein and wholegrains help to stabilise blood sugar levels, as does lots of veg.

Sugars and white carbs are likely to make things worse.

Wow that really sounds like diabetes to me. Drinking a lot and hunger rage are two tell tale signs. Trip to the GP is a good idea.
