Bedtime Routine (Teeth and Story)

Hi,

I was wondering if people wouldn't mind sharing their bedtime routines with me? My baby is 6 months old and this is his routine at the moment:

5 - 6pm Tea (solids)
7pm Bath
7:20 Into PJs
7:30 Bottle and bed.

The problem is, we need to incorporate a story and teethbrushing, but he is usually really drowsy after his bottle and I don't really want to over stimulate him by brushing his teeth after. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? Also, when is the best time to read a story? He always gets upset when we take him out of the bath and screams while we get him dressed so we calm him down with his bottle.

Any thoughts or advice would be fab! Thanks!

I used to do teeth in the bath. Initially it's almost play just getting used to the brush sensation, then when paste is introduced messy so the bath comes in handy. I didn't do story at bedtime at this age, book play in the day but the bedtime story came as they went into a toddler bed and needed to be calm in it before being left. My elder two were nearer to one going into a cot bed DD is 18 months and still happy in her cot. She has a story before her afternoon nap.

Right okay, so is it okay to do teeth before he has his final feed and not after?

Better that than not at all. I'm not convinced that the first six months of brushing is very effective at cleaning. I think it's more getting them used to the brush and stopping any build up.

I'm guessing there are many right ways of doing things. To me, waking them to do teeth after a last bottle has relaxed them is possibly making a rod for your own back.

Yeah I didn't really want to have to do that. He finds it really hard to fall asleep at the best of times!!
