So why can't my nearly 2 year old son coordinate a spoon or fork yet then?

Or hold a pencil, or have any interest in attempting to?

My DD (20 mo) will only eat from forks if I load them for her and will only eat yoghurt with a spoon. Other than that she uses her hands. She also didn't walk until she was nearly 15 months and I panicked about that but she toddles around like any other child her age now. It is hard not to get caught up on milestones but they all get there in the end!

My DD still can't do a spoon without turning it upside down before it reaches her mouth, she's 21 months. She can use a pencil, kind of and talks quite well. They are all just very different!

OP - if it is any consolation my ds is 26mo, so older than yours, and still poor with cutlery - is just about starting to get there with a spoon, so long as it isn't peas or anything needing a steady hand.

He also doesn't speak yet. But he is bright as a button and very happy, so I'm resolved not to worry.

My son is 38 months...he still uses his fingers more than his spoon or fork, despite all encouragement to the contrary.

They all get there in the end.

Hi
when did your son started to feed himself with cutlery ? Was he diagnose with any fine skills disorders ?
