Hi. Not sure if this is place to post but need some advice. Don't want to google!

Dd is 6 and has 8 yr old male cousin who comes to stay with us in holls. They share a room. It has become obvious that during the last visit, the 2 of them were playing a bit of 'you show me yours........I show you mine' type of thing. i overheard them.

I casually mentioned this to DD in a roundabout way. She just giggled and said yes X showed me his willy.

Now i know this is normal but still I can't help feeling a bit uncomfortable about it. Do I just leave it? Have a talk with DD? Discourage it? Put them in different rooms next visit?

Any advice?

Have a chat with the parent. "Thought you needed to know, this happened, I know it's perfectly normal at this age, but obviously they need to know that it's not appropriate, I'll have chat with X and you have a chat with Y..."

Thanks. i will but what do I do next, knowing this has happened? Is it time for separate rooms?

do you have the space? If so, then yes, if it makes you feel more comfortable.

Or maybe once you and the other child's parents have had a word, they won't play this game again.

They are getting to an age when, if they were siblings, you'd be looking at separate rooms anyway.

Actually don't have the space but if we all go away on holiday together then perhaps we need to think about it.

So, do I need to speak to DD about this or ignore it? Seriously not sure of the right tAck. I am guessing I need to tell her about what is private etc? Just don't want her to feel bad so want to do the right thing.

Yes, you should be having talks about how her body is private and when it is appropriate to show it, and how she should never do something that makes her feel uncomfortable and all that sort of stuff.

She needs to know that anyway, whether or not her and her cousin had been playing 'you show me yours and I'll show you mine'

a book

a different book

some advice

Thanks. Yes I know she needs that talk but this is the first time I have really seen a need for it. was never sure when the right time to brach it would be. Seems it is now!

Cheers.
