Another potty training query - poor sphincter control??!

OK, heres the update. Started potty training ds on Saturday (sort of using GF but not quite). He is now going c. every hour so if you get him to sit on the potty every hour you don't have too many accidents (2/3 day), but if its late or he just needs it at 45 mins not an hour then he just wets himself (he says 'trousers wet' and is a bit upset, but still doesn't ask for the potty...). This all seems quite normal (though I admit i did entertain fantasies of it all being sorted in 2 days...)My query is this. An hour or two before he does a poo he tends to soil his pants two or three times, not a whole poo just a bit. This evening he was nude in the bathroom before his bath and I saw him do a poo on the floor (10p size), then another bit (small and runny!!) came out as I manhandled him onto the potty; he then sat there for a couple of minutes and then produced a proper poo. Is it normal to have this sort of leakage in advance of a poo? Can I do anything about it or will it just sort itself out as he learns??
Sorry its a bit graphic!

Though my own DS was potty trained by that age.... I find him very much the exception so don't be too hard !
Do you send him to the potty or does he go on his won and is he dressed (underpants) or bare botttom?

I should add my DS (and DD) never asked for the potty they just went.

Agree with Bloss, our DS definitely left it until the last possible moment. In fact to the point where he was holding it in and making himself constipated despite having mastered wees. We got to the point where we went to the doctor and got a prescription for lactulose which helped clear the problem up (although I'm convinced it was largely in his head). So don't think yur DS is doing too badly. If you're managing the wees I think the poos should follow!

Also DS would generally say that he didn't want to go if asked so we ended up instigating the rule of sitting on the potty before going out. Saved much washing of car seat covers I'm sure.
