My DD is nearly 10 months she only army crawls and can't pull herself up yet. Do I need to worry?

My DD is turning 10 months in a few days and she can only army crawl she is pretty good at it but she won't crawl. I try to put her in crawling position but she goes flat on to her belly and off she goes. She also can't pull herself up yet holding onto furniture I do try to make her stand holding my hands which she does enjoy. Do I need to worry regarding her not crawling or pulling herself up?

No, not at all.

DS was the same. Started 'proper' crawling and standing/cruising along the furniture at about the same time, around 10-11 months. Now he's 12 months and still a lazy/slow crawler, but he's ace at standing! As long as she's finding her own method of getting about, I wouldn't worry.

Emandlu · 06/08/2012 20:20

My dd didn't crawl, roll, bum shuffle or anything until she was 10.5 months. Then she saw a tin of chocolate biscuits (it was Christmas time) and crawled the length of the room. Within 6 weeks she was walking.

So I'd say from my experience there is nothing to worry about.

33goingon64 · 06/08/2012 20:55

DS is 17 mo and only started crawling a few weeks ago!! He always preferred standing and walking holding on to fingers and now runs round. But can't get himself up to sitting or up to standing without help. I wouldn't worry at all.

cheapandchic · 07/08/2012 16:37

I was worried too, but from what I can read/research online...as long as they attempt at some sort of movement thats all that matters.

So as long as they 'try' to move, doesn't matter if they are good at it or not. Nor does it matter what manner. My friends baby only rolls.

My eldest never crawled (straight to walking last day of month 9) and some strange people said that was 'bad for her development' crawling is important'...bullocks! She is 2.5 now and clever, athletic, coordinated.

My friend apparently never walked until age two and let me tell you is the smartest, best natural at any sport of anyone i know... so Do Not Worry:)

shrinkingnora · 07/08/2012 16:44

DD was army crawling at that age and walking before she was one. Don't worry at all.

Rizzi · 07/08/2012 21:59

Thank you all for your posts! Seems like I don't need to worry at all :-).
It's just that we will be going to stay with DHs family next week and I know they will comment on the way she is crawling because they won't have seen it before and make me worry.

one of mine didn't move until she was 12 months

then she started crawling (conventional style, v boring Grin)

& didn't walk until 19 months

all within the range of normal though so if your ILs try to suggest otherwise, tell them there is a huge range of physical development stages in children (in a casual manner that suggests they just don't know what they're talking about Wink)

Haha! Thank you ponders!
This is the first time I put a message up and u guys have been very helpful. Thank you!

Glad you're reassured. My dd army crawled until 10 months (she could stand though), didn't really bother with proper crawling and then got up and walked before she turned 1. They can change so quickly.

DS on the other hand was crawling at 5 months, up on his feet at 6, cruising at 7 etc etc and by 10 months was running the length of the room. He hasn't the common sense to be doing this and I spend most of my day following him or removing from a situation he's created.

Enjoy these last weeks, maybe months. Grin

ShowOfHands · 07/08/2012 22:18

By enjoy these last weeks I mean enjoy having a baby who can't run away. Sounded an awful lot like I was threatening to come and steal your dd in a short amount of time.

Rizzi · 07/08/2012 22:22

Sorry to bother again but at what age do they start pulling themselves up on furniture? My DD just doesn't show any interest at all in even trying to.

Mine didn't even start pulling up till 12mo! But unlike 33goingon64's LO, DD can stand up from sitting in the middle of the room, without furniture, before walking. She is 16mo and cant run yet. They are all different.

Rizzi · 07/08/2012 22:26

Lol showofhands I understood what u meant. I should just make the most of it before I'm constantly running after her!

She started walking at 14mo btw. I hear that's quite a short period between pulling up and walking.

MyDogShitsMoney · 07/08/2012 22:32

DS pulled himself up for the first time a week ago.
He's 1 tomorrow.

Crawled at 10 months, flipped around like an eel out of water until 9 months when he finally started sitting!

Doilooklikeagoldmedallist · 07/08/2012 22:41

DS did the army crawl , until I took him to see my elderly neighbour so she could watch the funny way he crawled .
He obviously got on his hands and knees and crawled properly !
He was almost one by this time .
He walked , holding hands or pushing a trolley by about 14 months and walked on his own at 16 months or so .
He is now 17 , and quite normal , and learning to drive , that's much more frightening !

FillybusteringForGold · 07/08/2012 22:46

DCs 1 & 2 didn't even crawl (not even army style) until their 1st birthdays. DC3 was pulling herself upright at 9 months. Everyone will tell you until you're sick of it, but its true....every child is different!

FWIW, dc1 started pulling himself up at around 14 months, took a couple of hesitant steps at 15mo then didn't do anything until he started walking suddenly, around 17mo.

Dc2 didn't even stand until 22 mo, and would scream blue murder if we tried to support her upright. We got her checked by a specialist - she's massively hypermobile and eventually learnt to walk by leaning on/pushing a dolls buggy around the place. Now aged 4, she won her recent sports day running race at nursery.

Dc3 was crawling around 10 months, and walking at 14mo. Felt early for us though!

If your dd is happy and developing normally in all other ways then theres nothing to worry about :)
