sleeping pattern gone awol

My little boy has gone from being a fairly good sleeper, as in, going down at 6/7, quick wake at 10pm for a feed straight back to sleep then all the way till 5/6ish.

Suddenly he has started waking up early evening only to fall immediately to sleep in my arms. However, when i go to put him down in his cot, he wakes instantaneously and begins crying. The same thing happens in the middle of the night too. It can take upto 1.5 hours to get him back down.

He does have a cough which doesn't help but this started before the cough. It started the night he slept over at his grandparents, i don't know whether its relevant.

Could it be some form of separation anxiety? Also, he has become quite attached to a fleece blanket i use often. Does this kind of behaviour last long?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

How old is he sharp?

SharpInTheWoods · 04/08/2012 08:53

He'll be 9 month at end of august. He's also trying to crawl at the moment. I have on occasion found him in a crawling position in his cot which has woken him up i think.

Pretty sure there is a sleep regression associated with this developmental leap, have a look at the Wonder Weeks website and it might tell you more.

If he is trying to crawl at night, does he sleep in a grobag?

Thanks, i will take a look. I remember he went backwards with his sleep at about 4 months too.

Yes he has a grow bag. Im not sure its every time he wakes up that its because he's trying to crawl but i have found him in that position a few times. He does seen to prefer sleeping on his side these days too so it could just be he's rolled too far?

Think all the waking could just be a developmental leap, but at least if they are in a grobag they aren't waking you because they have kicked off the blankets Smile.
