Since moving from a cot dd will not stay in her bed!

It's been over a month now. We put her to bed (same routine as always) and she just comes out. We put her back, she comes out etc etc. she's not crying, she's usually asking us what we're watching Hmm we don't respond at all.

On a good night it takes half an hour, two hours on a bad night. This has been going on for over a month.

We've moved her bedtime to 8 instead of 7 because she still needs her nap in the day (up to two hours). She's 25 months. Once she's asleep she stays in her bed all night.

Any advise appreciated!

From "asking us what we're watching" I guess you and DP are watching TV at the time?

Could you be boring instead? Perhaps she's thinking that TV sounds much more fun and she'd like to do that instead. DS is under the impression that once CBeeBees shows the green "night night" screen that is it, there is no TV left any more till next day. While DS is dropping off I sit just outside his room reading my book.

How are you putting her back into bed? Are you kind/funny/cuddly/neutral/distant/cross/angry?

SpottyTeacakes · 02/08/2012 07:28

Yes we just go downstairs and watch tv but there's no doors apart from the one on her room, good idea about having it off.

We just pick her up and put her back no talking or cuddles. I generally make her walk though because I'm pregnant

Put her back in a cot?

HugeMedalTally · 02/08/2012 07:33

What about a stair gate in her doorway? You could open it before going to bed, in case she needs you in the night.

SpottyTeacakes · 02/08/2012 07:38

Oh forgot to say can't have a stair gate on her door as the frame isn't wide enough Hmm

Don't really want her back in a cot as dc2 is due in December

Oh, sorry, I should've known it was too obvious to have been overlooked!

in my experience of my DS, now 2.7, this would be because he needed either no nap or a shorter nap during the day, theres usually problems at this age if they have a 2hour nap as they don't really need it by this age... what time is she having this nap and could you make it earlier and shorter? that way she will be really tired at bedtime and go straight off. mine sleeps 7-7 mostly with no problems but has no nap during the day, he went from 2 naps to just a morning nap at about 16m and then dropped the day nap altogether by 22m, before he dropped this we had trouble getting him off to sleep at bedtime - now (and he's only been in a big boy bed 2m) he's out like a light :) hope this helps in some way

If you don't want her in a cot and can't have a stair gate you really need to keep doing what you are doing. She will get it eventually. You could try sitting outside her room then you won't have so far to walk but 25 months is very little.

SpottyTeacakes · 02/08/2012 13:09

Thanks everyone, I'm going to try having the tv off before I start thinking about cutting down her nap. Before we moved her she was doing 2-3 hours nap then 7-7 now she's doing max 2 hour nap (usually 1.5hrs) at 12 and going to bed at 8.

We're having similar issues but must say the Supernanny method where you literally pick them up and keep putting them back in in silence (even if it is 73 times on the first night) seems to be working. First night - 33 goes, second night 16, third - she went straight down. She's only been in a week but this'll be night 4 of Supernannying so jury's still out!

SpottyTeacakes · 02/08/2012 13:52

That's what we've been doing Babydollsmum she just doesn't care! She's so funny though she stands at the top of the stairs licking the stair gate Hmm Grin

Oh christ! How many times have you had to put her back?

It was interesting for me to see how it went from annoyance to her thinking it was a game and stamping her feet waiting to be picked up to her just being utterly weary from it that by the end she was only bothering to stick her legs out and gave up.

SpottyTeacakes · 02/08/2012 14:14

On a good night only six times but we lose count on a bad night! I think the tv thing might work if she thinks we're not having fun or anything
