When did your EBF baby sleep through the night?

Just wondered when EBF babies tend to go through the night, I'm getting a lot of people telling me it will take a lot longer than FF babies? DS is only 6 weeks old so not expecting him to do it yet but just wondered? Also when do they tend to start to get in to some kind of routine?

11 months.

DoingTheSwanThing · 02/08/2012 06:52

18 months (sorry). Few odd nights of 6/8 hour blocks before then.
But I was working from 5 month and honestly didn't mind the nighttime snuggles... might actually miss it!

stopthinkingsomuch · 02/08/2012 06:56

First 8 weeks, 2nd 12 weeks 3rd 13/14 weeks. They were all on a eat, wake, sleep routine and they slept through when they stopped jolting as much and found fingers.

stopthinkingsomuch · 02/08/2012 06:58

Will also add we had blips around 4-6 months when introducing solids, blips during physical milestones and so on.

UntamedShrew · 02/08/2012 07:00

EBF twin DSs - slept 7-7 with an EBM dream feed at 11pm, from 13w. Dropped dream feed at 6m and still slept 7-7.

EBF DD was a different kettle of fish. Finally went 7-6.30 at 6m.

They're all different & the child's temperament / habit / metabolism / preference etc. is going to make more difference than what milk you feed them, I think.

MrsHoarder · 02/08/2012 07:07

9pm-8am from 5 weeks. We haven't yet hit 4 months for sleep regression though!

sweetkitty · 02/08/2012 07:08

DD1 from about 8 weeks.

DD2, DD3 & DS at just over a year when I actively night weaned. Solids made utterly no difference to their sleep patterns even when they were on 3 meals a day plus snacks. I had to chose not to feed them in the night and slept away from them but left them with their Dad for comfort as I don't believe in CC. It literally took 2-3 nights it's as if they say no milk no point waking. I slept away from them for about a week to break the connection and it was fine I still BF them for a few months after that.

mankyscotslass · 02/08/2012 07:09

DS1 from 8 weeks, DD from 8 weeks.

DS2 was 18 mths!!

BeattieBow · 02/08/2012 07:24

my dd who's 11 weeks started doing 6/7 hour stretches at 6 weeks when she hit 12lb (not sure how relevant that is, or if it's a myth that that's the weight they need to be to sleep better).

I noticed that she's in more of a routine in the last week or so, nap wise - she seems to be staying awake more during the day now anyway and her bedtime is earlier (although that unfortunately means the 6 hour sleep starts earlier and finishes in the middle of the night now).

CecilyP · 02/08/2012 11:16

Mine slept through at 8 weeks and did so for the next 6 weeks. Unfortunately, he then had a cold which put an end to sleeping through for a couple of years.

nickelbarapasaurus · 02/08/2012 11:18

she once slept from midnight to 5am.
that was about 4-5 months, i think.

other than that, we've had a few nights where she's only woken two or three times.

she's 7.5months

AngelDog · 02/08/2012 12:00

DS doesn't normally at 2.7 years. He was ebf till 6 months, and bf'ed at night till a couple of months ago. He has had phases of sleeping 'through' at least 50% of the time, but that didn't happen till he was about 2.3 y.o.

He got into a feeding routine at 3 weeks - it lasted till 6 weeks. After that, we introduced a gentle rhythm to our days at about 6 months - actually, I fed on cue, but he didn't tell me when he wanted bf'ing until 15 months. Confused

headfairy · 02/08/2012 12:02

ds was ten weeks old (dream baby) - dd was 14 months

catus · 02/08/2012 12:05

6 months old. But I used CC.

maybejusttheone · 02/08/2012 12:22

Still waiting for anything like consistency at 22 months (yes, months, not weeks).

We were up every 2 hours last night Shock

maybejusttheone · 02/08/2012 12:23

But we've had the odd phase (3 weeks at a time) of sleeping 7-7 so I know he can do it.

RuthlessBaggage · 02/08/2012 12:28

Not whilst ebf. DS1 was 19m or more; still waiting for DS2 (nearly 16m).

Unless you mean "six hours at a time" in which case um three months ish but regressed at four-month growth spurt.

Co-sleeping keeps me sane ish.

Shellywelly1973 · 02/08/2012 12:39

I think the issue is how u deal with the baby waking at night.

Im amazed at the posts on MN. After 5dc,i still couldnt stand night feeds,a necessary evil.

My longest was dc4,he was 5 months,that was 10-6am.

Though i have to admit i almost resorted to putting him in the dining room at night! I feel like a total light weight...how do u all function/work/etc?!?

cornflakegirl · 02/08/2012 12:45

DS1 - about 7 months (after going through at about 3m then regressing at 4m).

DS2 - 16m. He was much clingier, fed to sleep (which DS1 never did), and wanted night time feeds until I night weaned when it became clear that he was really just messing around. Took about a month of No Cry Sleep Solution to get him to sleep through properly. He does still sometimes wake in the night, maybe once a month.

SuperSesame · 02/08/2012 12:49

13 months and still pretty good at 20 months.
He never slept more than about 5 hours up to that point.
Going to try "le Pause" on the next one (from the book "French children don't throw food") to see if it helps.
The next one has not been conceived yet. Mainly due to these very reasons!

whatinthewhatnow · 02/08/2012 12:53

never. sorry. they are 2 and 4. the 4 year old got much much better when he was weaned at 2, but still needs a cuddle in the night, ever night. the 2 year old wakes up all the bloody time. I'm expecting it to improve when she's weaned, which will be soon if she doesn't get her act together.

whatinthewhatnow · 02/08/2012 12:56

obviously they weren't ebf until 2. that would be mean.

Belmo · 02/08/2012 13:07

Still up every 2 or 3 hours at 11 months here. She did a few 6 or 7 hour stretches at 3 months but not for ages. Am resigned to never sleeping again.

rrreow · 02/08/2012 13:56

Between 8-16 weeks my DS slept between 6-9 hours straight. Then it was hell until he was about 10 months, when he'd wake up twice a night. Right now (14 months) he sleeps about 9pm-5am has a short feed and goes back to sleep until 8am (although this morning he actually slept through until 8am without the 5am feed! He did wake up twice last night though but I just patted him and he went back to sleep within minutes).

I don't think any specific age is 'usual', it just happens when it happens. It was very gradual for us.

rrreow · 02/08/2012 13:57

To clarify my previous post between 4-10 months he woke up loads, too many times to count. Then around 10 months it settled a bit and he'd wake up around twice a night. I just realised my post read as if I thought waking up twice a night was hell haha.
