Baby rolling over and waking up?

Hi all.
My baby girl is 3 months old and had always slept on her tummy (against advice i know but she would only ever sleep that way) For the last couple of nights she's been rolling over onto her back and waking herself up. When I get up and turn her back over she'll usually go back to sleep until the next time. However last night when I turned her over on to her tummy again she was trying her hardest to turn back over on to her back which she eventually did. I left her that way but then she didn't settle back down so I ended up getting up with her. She has slept through the night since 8 weeks old (lucky I know) any ideas?

No ideas I am afraid but in a couple of weeks she will have mastered rolling both ways and then in will not be an issue. The same happened with my dd for a few weeks and you just have to ride it out. You could try giving her lots of tummy time when she is awake to try and get her rolling herself x

Thank you for the advice. It's almost as if she needs to get used to sleeping on her back but not sure how to do that as she's never done it.

Hey

Why don't you try a baby prop? this will stop her rolling (she has all day to learn to roll back and forth - night time is for sleeping!) - you don't want her learning to wake up (or needing you to help her sleep by turning over) so you need to nip it in the bud...

This one seems good (see link) as it doesn't have a pillow under their head which means breathing isn't an issue - usually they are designed to stop babies rolling onto their tummy as this position is advised against due to medical complications.

You can also achieve this by rolling two blankets up tightly and putting them under her fitted sheet!

Good Luck!

When my son was the same age and started to try rolling over in his bassinet he would get stuck and wake up , I would re set him on his front (yes I know what they say, but he also was not sleeping on his back...and after much struggle I just gave in) and he would go back to sleep...although not for the whole night, until he was over 7 months. I think is just part of the natural process of growing, she will do that for every milestone: when she start sitting up, when she start crawling etc...they seem to want carry on mastering their new found skill even while sleeping.

Thank you for the tips. She's also still in her Moses basket which I think she is getting too big for now, I think she's also waking herself up when she hits the sides or headbutts the top of the basket. Xx

I moved DD into her cot because she kept hitting her arms on the moses basket and waking herself up. The cot was much better. I also liked having it right next to my bed with the bar down because I could get to her easier x

You don't need to 'nip it in the bud'. It's an important part of development and they're wired to practise these new skills in their sleep. Once she's going both ways easily, she'll manage to get comfortable herself. Cot will probably help with the space issue for now and it'll pass shortly.

In a few months you'll find she's standing up/crawling/getting on her knees in her sleep too. Grin

Thank you Showofhands for that reassurance Smile I'm going to try her in one of this sleeping bag things to see if that helps. But yes hopefully it will get better once she learns to roll both ways Grin
