Hiya I have a three year old son, he has been toilet trained for nearly a year now but he has started pooing outside (when outdoors playing) and weeing in the bin or on the carpet instead of going to the toilet.

It's really frustrating as he has been so good with it up to now and I have no idea why he has started doing this.

Any help/ideas will be greatfully received :)

Well if you think he could tell you perhaps start off by asking him y :) if not I would then say maybe rule out any medical issues a urine infection and constipation would go along way to explain why the urge would be upon him far to quick to be able to act on it. Its mire likely medical if he's actually soiling himself. If he's just casually finding himself a spot and pulling down his trousers etc then that's probably more behavioral and maybe a star chart would help or taking him to sit in the loo every hour or so would help re enforce that he needs to go to the bathroom. I hope this phase is short lived :)

I have asked him why hes doing it, but hes not a big talker (slightly delayed speech, improoving daily) I think it's more behavioral as he isnt doing it all the time, and is just finding himself spot to do it, it's like he cant be botherd to get to the toilet!
Thankyou I will try the chart thingy and see if this improoves, i sure hope so!! :)

Interesting, my nearly 3 year old DD is doing the same - weeing on the carpet. I think I remember her elder sister doing the same.
I think it's just being very distracted and not wanting a wee to interrupt playing. I'm making it clear that it's a nuisance, but not making too big an issue. I'm sure it'll pass.
Is it an age thing?
