What do your kids take to bed?

Well, not literally, but DD has just gone to bed with:

-bag no.1 (fluffy pink), containing
1 hello kitty toy
1 compact mirror/comb
1 travel clock she nicked off my mum (she confessed and was allowed to keep it)
1 set Russian dolls

-bag no.2 (hello kitty shoulder bag) containing
3 my little ponies
1 fake my little pony
1 brush for the my little ponies
1 brown schleich horse

I think that's all, though I can't honestly say I did a comprehensive search.

Can anyone beat this number of bed time companions (I kind of hope so - am starting to think she might have slight emotional difficulties)?

Sorry the OP doesn't make sense. I was originally going to say 'what crap does your kid take to bed' in the title!

DD has to have Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore, Piglet, a small smurf, a small Winnie the Pooh, an cuddly owl & a cuddly bird between the top of her pillow & the head board, two Mr Men books on the top left corner of her pillow, a drink of water to the right of her pillow with a cuddly dinosaur above it & Tigger on the bottom right corner of her pillow. It took her months to perfect the exact arrangement and we used to find it very amusing listening to her over the monitor going, for example, "no Pooh, you not there. You go next to Eeyore". Woe betide anyone who messes with the arrangement! When I was heavily pregnant, I find it impossible to change her sheets (her bed is in an alcove) so got the cleaner to do it & drew her a diagram of who went where after the first time when she lined all of these toys up at the bottom of DD's bed & DD looked absolutely horrified.

Hulababy · 26/07/2012 20:57

At the last count 10y DD had 23 soft toys on her bed. There were double tha but we made her remove half and put them on her bottom bunk.

2cats2many · 26/07/2012 20:59

DS (3.6ys): 6-8 muslins, probably as many teddies including two that MUST be in bed with him.
DD (5 yrs): A dirty old bit of cloth that she's had since she was a baby. Its in tatters now and looks disgusting even after its been washed. Also lip gloss, a stuffed horse, a pink build-a-bear, her huggle buddy, plus assorted other random objects that make it into bed from time to time.

elvisaintdead · 26/07/2012 21:00

DD would have as many teddies as she can get away with but I insist on only 3 (4 for a special treat or if she wants to add a new one she has just been given)

TodaysAGoodDayForTheGBTeam · 26/07/2012 21:00

I've told DS (he's 5) he can have as many soft toys as he likes, but nothing hard like books or marbles. There are usually between 1 and 7 different things in bed with him.
I still take my soft toy seal to bed, I couldn't sleep without him!

TodaysAGoodDayForTheGBTeam · 26/07/2012 21:01

Oh, and I forgot he takes a muslin cloth to bed as well.

plantsitter · 26/07/2012 21:02

Oh good! Lots of stuff in small children's beds all over the land then!

Tee2072 · 26/07/2012 21:02

He's only allowed to take his teddy and some dummies. Anything else and he plays rather than going to sleep.

However, this means that his bedside table is piled with trains and trucks and his other bear and some blocks and another dummy and...it goes on and on...

NoKnownAllergies · 26/07/2012 21:06

DD has 3 Disney princess dolls. She alternates them with her others so they 'take turns and it's all fair.'. DS has a large plastic dinosaur and dinosaur food (a small green cloth) in case dinosaur wakes up at night and is hungry. They both have a pile of books near them and a bottle of water on the floor besides their beds.

creativepebble · 26/07/2012 21:10

My dd (2.5) will take things to bed that she loves at that moment.
Not all at once these things have included:

her new wellies,
her umbrella,
her muslins,
cuddly toys,
a torch,
lots of books,
plastic ducks and fish from her bath,
a particular piece of puzzle,
a helium balloon...

She loves going to bed!

I hasten to add that I take all these things away as soon as she has fallen asleep (usually quite quickly).

Do I win gold?!

pourmeanotherglass · 26/07/2012 21:13

TOO MANY TEDDIES AND BUNNIES

plus notebooks, pens, about 6 books, a blankie, magazines, and a ballet skirt

It's amazing there is any room for a little girl really!

StealthToddler · 26/07/2012 22:00

Totally depends. There are always about 8 teddies and 2 taggies each. Two oldest have a torch and cup of water. Usually a book under the pillow. Have also found when checking:
Toy electric brio train turned on with lights and engine on shining into sleeping eyes
Babies inflatable "donut" on top of ds1
Lego
Train track
Hello kitty hair band

xMinerva · 27/07/2012 08:52

Ds1 usually has his watch and a book under his pillow. An old flashing toothbrush, a bottle of water and his "baby" (a little teddy bear holding a piece of soft fleece). Occasionally he also takes 3 meerkats in with him. I did insist on leaving his scooter on the floor one night though.

Ds2 Nothing. He never has. Although he does have a bottle of water. He likes to wear strange things to bed instead. A few weeks ago he went to bed with his alien wellies on. I tried to take them off but he got hysterical and I thought it wasn't a fight worth having so left him and took them off after he fell asleep. He's also gone to bed wearing a wolly bobble hat, socks on his hands, his brothers pants over his pj's, swimming trunks and armbands and all manner of other things.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/07/2012 09:04

DS (8) has about 25 teddies in his, plus books, comics, random bits of games, match attax cards etc.

DD (6) has at least as many teddies plus dolls, cushions, handbags, dressing up toys, parts of games, nothing surprises me. During the week we just pull the duvets over it all, I'm not bothered about neatly made beds. When it comes to changing the sheets The DCs empty it all into a couple of those big soft plastic tubs, put away anything that really shouldn't be there (eg things that we have been looking for) then tip it allback in afterwards. We are desperately short of toy storage space so it helps keep the rest if their room a bit less cluttered. I do check DDs bed for anything she could get round her neck as she has a habit of using ribbons, belts etc to create dog leads for teddies, palaces for dolls etc.

bruffin · 27/07/2012 09:04

DD used to take a bit of my clothing, usually my nightie to cuddle. It had to be worn, I assume it was for the smell. I did find one of ds's socks in her bed one dayHmm She did it until she was about 10.

matana · 27/07/2012 09:15

DS is 20 mo and has about 20 cuddly toys ranging from rattling frogs/ rabbits to several large teddy bears. He has probably 4-5 'favourites' which apparently depend on the suckability of their labels. They are permanently brown despite regular washing. Yuck. Yet also rather cute Hmm

DontEatTheVolesKids · 27/07/2012 09:40

British Airways flight toiletries bag stuffed with treasures of the day (DS4yo). He is only one of DC that has ever insisted on a drink of water by bed, too.

DD10 (finally) evicted her 100+ cuddlies last year. She still sleeps with a range of sofa cushions from diverse sources. She used to insist on sleeping with one of my worn PJ tops as it smelled like me.

Hulababy · 27/07/2012 09:49

DontEatTheVolesKids - my 10y DD chooses to sleep in one of DH's t shirts or PJ tops instead of one of her own many lovely nightclothes!

stealthsquiggle · 27/07/2012 09:57

Both DC: Heaps of cuddly animals including 1 huge one each (5ft crocodile for DS, 7ft snake for DD). As it gets hotter, DH and I tend to impose limits and force excess animals to go and sleep in the (huge) soft toy baskets they both have crammed full, but the crocodile and the snake are hard to evict.

MyMamaToldMe · 27/07/2012 10:10

DD 4yo - about 10 different soft toys, her 'baby' and it's blankie (a cat soft toy that she has had since birth and a taggie), a crown pillow, several books really, and a drink of water next to the bed - I don't understand how she can sleep with that lot, especially the books, but that's how she wants it!

GnocchiNineDoors · 27/07/2012 10:14

At the moment dd (7mo) takes a stripey mouse cuddly thing which has a very over-sucked tail and nose, plus a smatyering of dummies for her to bash along the cot bars and then throw away choose from.

Shes finally started rolling over in her cot in the mornings so have added a taggie and a large round birdy cuddly toy at the top so encourage her to practice.moving.

IceCreamCastles · 27/07/2012 10:21

Dd went through a phase of having to take 3 red feathers in addition to dolly and teddy and other assorted crap

BikeRunSki · 27/07/2012 10:27

DS(3.10)
Cuddlies - monkey, pig, kangaroo, really ugly clown doll, giraffe, full set of Zoo Lane soft toys
Hard plastic dinosaur
My camera
His swimming badge
Stripey blanket
A couple of books
Beaker of milk
Photo of Mam Tor
Toy digger which speaks every time he moves. I wake up in the night to ghostly sounds of "Let's get digging" from the next room.

BlueChampagne · 27/07/2012 11:17

DS2 (2.7) lots of soft toys, 'small' Jupiter fire engine, the occasional car and sometimes 'big' Jupiter (wooden, about 50cm long)!

DS1 went through a phase of taking his favourite LETTERS (J and Q) from the set of foam letters for the bath to bed at about the same age.
