HELP!! Are 25 wees a day normal??

Please help! I've started potty training my son (2.5) today, and been doing the GF thing (ish) of putting him on the potty every 15 minutes and noting the times of any accidents or 'hits'. I've just counted up, and he did 25 wees and/or poos today! Often only 10/15 minutes apart. They are fairly evenly split between accident/potty, but he only once actually asked for the potty. Normally he 'leaked' a little and I noticed and put him on the potty and he then 'performed'. Am still planning on continuing tomorrow but getting a bit disheartened. Is this number of wees normal?? Will he quickly learn to hold them in and do less frequent bigger ones? or does this mean he isn't ready yet? Also, will he get the hang of asking for the potty or do I just continue to put him on it? And how do you think his nursery will be able to cope with continuing this? I don't want to break it off now I've started if I can help it - and he seems quite keen on the idea of his new pants - but however keen and sympathetic they are, surely no nursery can cope with 25 accidents in a day?!
Please help!! Thanks.

Just started potty training my son (same age as yours) - was also surprised by the number of wees he does, often 5 within 30 min in the morning, so I would say that at this age it is probably normal.
Ds seems to do less when he's at nursery (they take him to the toilet at fixed times, not very often in my opinion) and I was wondering if it was an attention seeking thing when he's at home - obviously he gets lots of attention for a wee in the potty.
We started potty training because ds wanted to - I would have been happy to leave it till he was nearer 3 - but we have had hardly any accidents with wees (less than one a day). He still hasn't pooed in the potty though - he will hold on and poo in his bedtime/naptime nappy. I have no idea where to go from here. Just hoping he decides to poo in potty soon.
Ds didn't ask for potty for the first couple of days, just used to go and sit on it (we've got pottys in most rooms), but has begun to tell us every time.
His nursery had to give him 5 changes of clothes on the first day he wore pants, they were concerned that he didn't tell them that he had had an accident so he was in wet trousers until they 'discovered' him. They told me to send him in pull-ups in future but they put him in pants the next day and he was fine - no accidents.
Don't know if any of this will help you, but please tell me how it's going with you...

thanks for the reassurance! We seem to have gone down to every 1/2 hour to 50 mins this morning, thank goodness. He still doesn't notice he needs it - unless he has already wet himself a bit.So its new pants for virtually every wee, but mainly not flooded out. Will try having a good talk with nursery tomorrow...

My dd started off like this too - it didn't take that long before she could go 4 hours so don't worry, this is just a stage!

Seem to have got it to every hour to two hours this afternoon. Still no sign of recognising in advance that he's going to do a wee (or even poo) though - but will keep it in for an hour or so and then go when put on the potty (or complain that his trousers are wet if we left it a bit too long...). Hopefully potting him every hour should be well within nursery capabilities?

DS2 (2y9m & just trained!) took a week to reliably notice he needed to go before he'd started weeing. Flood accidents happened less and less, turning into those ones where the front of his pants were just a bit damp where he'd started but stopped himself. He's not had an accident at all for a week now (3 weeks after training commenced). He's even got the hang of poos now that I remind him to ask for the potty before he starts to push!

Nursery were great. He had FAR less accidents there than he did at home.

Yesterday was day 12 of potty training, and ds was holding on for a couple of hours between wees. He also did his first poo in the potty - I'm so proud!! This was rewarded with a packet of choccie buttons, and so a further 2 poos were deposited in the potty in the next few hours...
He is now quite good at asking for the potty when he needs it, so we seem to have got over the first hurdles.. now how do we get him to use the big Toilet?
