Any ideas for entertaining a 5mth old indoors?

Have you got a bouncy chair or playmat? Sitting or lieing on those ESP if you can hang some toys to grab at was a good one.

Looking at cloth books/pictures to see
Patterns /textures.

Making you animals talk or make noises so
Can grab them.

Peekaboo , Round and round the garden -
Tactile or action rhymes and songs.

Um

Peekaboo, row the boat, wooden spoons to pass hand to hand

But really all they need is cuddles, to have familiar person close by to interact

Is it your baby ?

Have you got a sling? Both dd were happiest in it just watching whatever me or dh were doing

RaisinDEtre · 21/07/2012 13:23

Hungry, tired, nappy ?

Take out in buggy, find a leafy tree to look at ?

It's a grind sometimes, sympathy

My DD loves going for walks in the carrier and looking around. Also we watch and sing to the gigglebellies on youtube. She loves looking at herself in the mirror and playing high five. Daddy flies her around playing the bumble bee. But sometimes she'll amuse herself for ages by trying to eat the duvet or her feet! Fine by me :)

Here is a huge list of games

Do you have a door bouncer or jumperoo? I'm not one to throw money at a problem but DD is so happy in her door bouncer, we set it up in the kitchen so she can watch me wash up and cook, also you can put toys on the floor for them to kick.

Leafy trees and hedges are also a real winner. There has yet to be a tantrum that a hedge hasn't fixed for us Grin

But I could have written your post - I'm pretty unsure what to do with DD most of the time!

My lb began to love going for walks in the baby bjorn facing outward at that age. He would smile constantly whilst out and about. We wouldn't go out for long as my shoulders would tire - he's a big boy! He also loves the jumperoo although I limit that to once a day for about 20 mins just in case the rumours of being bad for their hips is true. He gets bored in his bouncy chair although if we're on the garden he tolerates it for much longer.

i used to put DD1 and DD2 in a bumbo in front of the washing machine - they loved it

monkeymamma · 25/07/2012 11:29

love the washing machine idea!!

DS is 5m and I'm finding it much harder work keeping him entertained as developmentally he's had a bit of a leap of late and needs so much more. In particular he loves objects so I spend a lot of time trying to (1) find objects that are safe (the unsafe ones always seem to attract him like a magnet, garhh) and (2) put them somewhere he can reach them (he hates being helped so I have to convince him he's done it himself!!).

His chief activities are:
songs/rhymes
looking at books
holding/eating/scragging various objects (see above)
watching me put the washing out/bring it in/water the plants/make dinner
me carrying him about the house to look at pictures, photographs, plants etc
me holding him up to the mirror and saying hello baby BOO!
me holding him up to look at the clock and saying tick, tock, tick, tock with him
peekaboo

With the weather so hot I'll also sometimes take some cool-ish water out into the garden in his old baby bath (he is too big now so we use the family bath) and give him a mini splash about.

Once his daddy is home there's a bit more energetic play/tickling/holding up in the air etc. I'm usually too knackered!

You could also try baby massage if you have classes near you?

I have a five month old.

She goes on her playmat with lots of toys.

Bouncy chair - attach a clip on arch/sit in front of washing machine/in the room with you so you can talk to her.

Bouncy swing in doorway with clip on toys plus baby cot piano underfoot to entertain her.

In the sling whilst I do chores like washing up or hoovering.

If you have a garden in the pram under a tree is a good one.

Stories, singing nursery rhymes, dancing around with her in my arms to music.

Bathtime (any time of day).

Bouncing on the bed.

My secret entertainment strategy that never fails is my 3 year old - you could always borrow a child Grin
