Hi

My DS is only 3.5months but already teething
Am using the granuals at the mo and seem to work but you can only give so many in a day

What ideas have worked for you, any ideas will be great help however silly they may be...

I was complaining to my Dad, who is a dentist, about teething. He said the only sure fire thing to work is wait 2 years and it'll all be over. DD2 (13 mo) really suffers with her teeth and the only thing that helps her when they are really bad is ibuprofen. Paracetamol doesn't seem to do enough. Sorry.

My little cousin is 3 and still teething so not sure about that!

I go between the granules, new era tabs from holland and Barrett and paracetamol when he needs it (or ibuprofen if he's really bad) found the gels good for a while but not now. Your ds is obviously a bit young but now ds is older he chomps on bits off apple, carrot or rice cakes which help.

He won't touch any teethers except a nuby bugaloop which he loves.

When he was younger (before I discovered the bugaloop) I'd let him chew on my finger. Mostly he'd just want his dummy tho.

(finally at 6.5 months after 4 months of teething we're getting a tooth Grin)

Ibruprofen if it's disturbing feeds or sleep. Cold, clean wet flannel to chew on. He's a little too young for frozen bananas or chunks of cucumber yet. How about those teething rings?

DialsMavis · 20/07/2012 16:55

Ibruprofren at night and Ambesol in the day, fabulous stuff Smile

The tips I've had are:

Teething powder is better than gel (my neighbours)
Brandy (lady in Asda cafe approached me!)
Peel a carrot that's been in the fridge and let the baby chew it (lady on the bus)
Put warm water on the babies gums (DS's great grandma)

Luckily I've not had to resort to anything yet as DS's first two teeth came out with no issues!

Thank you everyone some great ideas to try Smile

DD teeths badly and it seems to go on for weeks before the tooth pops through. What seems to work best with her is paracetamol when the tooth is ibuprofen at night and cold damp flannel during the day. Also keeping her really busy and distracted, bit harder with a small baby though. When she was that little the teething powders worked well.

Mum2Fergus · 22/07/2012 22:17

Not sure if it has a proper name but we used a silicon toothbrush with DS (got it in Boots) and we had no problems with teeth coming through. Had to use Calprofen one night but discovered in the morn 3 new teeth had come through!!

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 22/07/2012 22:21

Ds is a similar age and teething powder and letting him chew on a Sophie giraffe toy have helped enormously. We've had to start putting vaseline all around his mouth and chin too to stop all the dribbling giving him a rash

Anbesol liquid (not the gel)
Calpol

When DD2 was little I used to put an icecube in a muslin cloth (use a small hair elastic to keep it in place) and let her chew/suck on that which seemed to help.

Sometimes I do think that it's best to give paracetamol/ibuprofen though, especially for sleeping.
