8 month old DS doesn't seem to have a straight back when sitting

DS started sitting by himself at around 5.5 months, with cushions around him for when he fell over, and without cushions from around 6.5 months. I know I shouldn't compare him to other babies, but when I see him sitting next to other babies of the same age, they all look to be sitting with beautifully straight backs and he looks quite slouched. He is happiest when sitting though and reaches for his toys with no problem. It seems like too silly a thing to trouble the doctor with, but should I contact a professional? Also, does anyone else notice this with their babies? Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about it, I'm sure as he gets older he'll start sitting more upright, he's only very little and some babies at that age are not sitting unaided yet.

His muscles won't be strong enough to support his back properly yet. Smile

My ds is 10 months and still a bit slouchy sometimes! I think he's still learning, thats all, and sometimes he puts more effort in than other times Smile

All babies have different muscle tone but if it is affecting his sitting ie he is falling over or having problems balancing I would ask a HV to check him just to be reassured. My dd has low tone in her core muscles and sat very slumped at that age - however, it has strengthened and improved as she's got older.
