If your child has achieved a distinction in a piano grade or a dance grade- or a merit, but a distinction deserves a bigger reward- a reward is not an unreasonable thing for your child to ask for. If they've done well, show that they've done well with a small reward.

Eh?

Should children only get rewards if they ask for them then?

I don't think it's unreasonable but I think the size of the reward should be the same whether its merit or distinction,I think it's praise children really crave.

We are always praising the twins when they have done something well at home or school no matter what and I always buy them something (not expensive) at the end of the year to tell them how well they have done and how proud we are of them and this is a small reward for their achievements. Btw it's usually books as we on holiday just after they break up and we want them to read whilst we are away.

Don't really understand what this thread's about. OP are you asking for advice or giving it unsought?
