how to get DD to stay on potty longer?

We're potty training DD 2.4 this week, today is our 1st day and so far she has not done any wees or poos in the potty (two carpet accidents though). We've gone cold turkey and were pretty confident she'd get the hang of it easily-she is very aware of needing a wee/poo, has done poos and wees in the potty before, is very excited about wearing her big girl pants, etc. The issue so far is that she just won't stay on the potty for more than say 30 seconds. We've tried reading a book, chatting about other things, asking her to stay but no success so far. Any suggestions on other things we could try?

Put her in front of her favourite DVD / Cbeebies? Failing that, bribery with sweeties Grin

Watching with interest. I am also training my DD who is 2 years old. She constantly cries every time she sits on the potty and says I want to stand up mummy.

We kind of negotiate with DS - sit on the potty and do a wee then you can play with your train, watch an episode of Thomas, eat your banana, etc, etc. We used to read to him to get him to stay there which worked for a bit when we were first training hm. At first he also preffered a seat cover on the big toilet, but now he's more used to it he likes the potty.

Nothing to add but marking my place as DD does this - we have not started offcially training yet but whilst we have had practice goes at sitting and pulling pants down she will not sit on it for longer than 10 seconds.

The elmo potty training dvd might encourage her. But it is chocolate and smarties that mainly worked for me.
