10 month old has no sense of danger

Hi
My dd is nearly 10 months old and seems to have no sense of danger. She will just launch off the sofa and other high objects given half a chance. She has hurt herself before but there is no sign of her learning from her experiences.
I see other parents leave their babies on sofas and they just sit there.
Is my dd unusual in this behaviour?
Thanks

i wouldn't expect a 10 month old to have any sense of danger. that really doesn't kick in until much later.

Stannwigg · 13/07/2012 11:47

Nor my two year old!

tootiredtothinkofanickname · 13/07/2012 12:23

Not unusual at all. It's a normal stage. DS (16 months) is the same.

I thought your thread title was a statement of fact. Which it is...Grin

Of course she doesn't, she is 10m!! My 3.5 year old doesn't have buckets of it yet either.

BlackOutTheSun · 13/07/2012 12:29

My 16 month old would laugh in the face of danger if she knew what it was Grin

Its normal

We have a step down into our downstairs loo. My 10mo launches herself head first down it onto the concrete floor every time. Normal.

lol... no baby has any sense of danger. My three year old is only just starting to learn from experience. Even then she doesn't yet had common sense.

With boys I think they might get a concept of safety at around 35 year old!

Oh good, thanks for your replies. I wouldn't have thought anything of it if I didn't see friends leaving their babies unattended with no worries. Mine doesn't seem to even notice and edges or drops.
Maybe she will be a stunt girl! Seriously though thanks, us mums do worry eh!

No they don't have any sense of danger yet. What I did with my two was physically turn them round and guide them off the sofa and down stairs so they were going feet first tummy on sofa and they quickly got it

Completely normal OP my DD is 2 and still doesn't learn from her accidents. She fell of a chair this morning and climbed back on and nearly did the same thing again :)
Unfortunately some babies need to be watched like a hawk to stop them from flinging themselves off of everything.

tryingtonotfeckup · 14/07/2012 11:53

Mine did sofa diving, launched themselves off laughing.

BlablaSos · 14/07/2012 20:02

That's a good idea charlmills, thanks, I'll try that.

My 10m DS is the same. He can get off sofa safely feet first but prefers head first. He also climbs on everything and then just lets go. We spend lots of time with other babies the same age and he is the only one doing this, some of them like staying calm and still and others prefer to stay on the ground so they are all different.
I am trying to teach him how to get down off things or up the stairs safely but feel we will be on first name terms with A&E staff over next few years.

Very glad that there are others in the same position as me. It's a running joke in my nct group that ds (10months) will highlight areas needing baby proofing when we visit BlushGrin.

Baby groups are always mortifying too. The other babies sit and play with the toys. He is normally trying to head out the door/under a table/on a chair or chasing the group leader about.

It still takes me by surprise sometimes. One of my friends just commented the other day that she could no longer leave her dd (also 10 months) on the bed as she rolled off it. She was in another room 'getting stuff done'! Had to listen to rant about how she couldn't get things done as easy now. I haven't been able to leave ds since he was 4 months old!
