8.5mo soooo slow to fall asleep in day, but doesn't cry

So my son is a great night sleeper (settling and duration) and has been since small. He also used to go down well for day naps. But, since Easter (tying in with his first major cold hence me rocking him to sleep and turning 6months) he has been so hard to get to drop off at day naps. He doesn't cry, he just lies in his cot chatting to himself, rolling around, playing with his feet etc. I put him down 2 hours after he wakes, let him sleep for around an hour and then put him down about 2.5 hours after that after lunch. The morning nap is ok ish - it usually takes him 25 mins to fall asleep, but for the lunch nap, he can chat to himself for over an hour! He rarely cries so I am reluctant to keep going back in but I want him to nap! I'm pretty sure he is tired as if I do pick him up and bounce him in my arms, he can drop off in 1 min flat. Any help gratefully appreciated, its driving me bonkers. Make planning any activities really hard as I just never k now when he will drop off. Anyone think it's too early for one nap a day???

so he sleeps very well throughout the night but you also want him to sleep well in the day?

He could be ready to go to one nap, dd was the same age

I think your timings are too short. My DD is 7.5 months and she will no longer go down for a first nap after 2 hours, it's more like 3 now so I would imagine that your older DS is simply not tired enough.

@socknickingpixie - in a word ; yes!

I have been wondering if putting him down later is the answer, but think I have been delaying as all his little friends still seem to go no more than 2hrs between naps.. I will try from tomorrow :). The question is how long do u try these different ideas for before you decude whether they are working or not? I have heard it takes 3 days to form a pattern, then someone else told me three weeks.

I think it varies from baby to baby but IME so far, DD lets me know pretty quickly whether I'm on the right track or not!

Gathering from what you've said, why not tomorrow put him down 2.5 hours after he gets up and then for the afternoon nap, put him down 3-3.5 hours after his first nap and see how it goes?

Thks - I have tried putting him down later this morning, but a bout of hiccups has hindered us! Still - will persevere with this approach for a while and see if it works?
