DD and po problems - help please

DD is 8. She has had issues with poos over the years - when PT she would withhold poos till night-time when she had a nappy on and would only poo in her nappy.

Anyway, resolved that and that was fine. But for the last 18 months or so she has had a very sore tummy on and off. Saw the Gp several times who thought it was food intolerance so cut out gluten, wheat, etc for months but no change. eventually took her to see a paed specialist whio said it was RAP - recurrent abdominal pain or stomach migraine. said she's grow out of it and chill out about it.

Fast forward a year and she is still having these pains, though less frequently and she can deal with them better. However, what she is still having is really smelly poos (I mean horrible - smell totally different to her regular poos. They are small and soft yet come out in tiny bits and are quite granular, if you know what I mean? tiny little bits, yet not pellet-y like when you're constipated). When she's having her poo problem she'll come in from school and go straight to the loo adn can be in there ages, then will go again and again till bedtime and also after she's gone to bed - it's normal for her to go 2-3 times after lights out. This means she is getting to sleep later and later.

These poo episodes last anything up to two weeks then she has a big poo and 1-2 days of mucus whenever she goes to the loo, then things are back to normal - till the next time. The weird thing is, she only goes to the loo for these poos at home after school and after bedtime. Surely if she was constipated, she'd need to go all day??

I have asked her if she's drinking enough, and she eats plenty of fruit and veg and bran-type cereal every day for brekky.

Has anyone else experienced this??? Is it all linked to her very early poo problem? have asked her if she always goes to the loo when she needs to, and she says she does. Anyone got any advice? The GP just poo-poos (ha ha!) it, even the mucus - which I don't think is a good sign. Sigh. Sorry for the long post!

So sorry that your dd is going through this. My ds has had problems with pooing since he was weaned at 6 months (now 17 months so a lot younger than your dd) and we've had to really push for more help. If your gp is ignoring it then I recommend asking for a second opinion and demanding to be referred if your instincts are telling you that something is wrong ( the mucus thing would worry me too!). We were palmed off by a registrar for months then demanded more help, it was only then that the senior consultant saw ds and referred him to a bowel specialist.

I don't have any idea what it could be with your dd, and hopefully it's nothing that bad but do push harder to see someone that takes you seriously.
