DS can hear me say chocolate under my breath a room away

Can his hearing really need testing?

DS is 4 and a half, and going through a few tests to find the cause of his lack of focus/concentration, inability to sit still, inability to follow instructions etc.

We've done our own (obviously very scientifically accurate as you can tell by the thread title) hearing tests, does he really need a proper one?

The only reason I question it, is because it's a pain to get him in to be seen and he hates these sorts of things.

He sounds a little like dd (7) who can also hear "chocolate" from any distance and who has attention problems. There are different types and frequencies of hearing and hearing chocolate said in a quiet room does not mean he can hear and focus on intructions in a loud room.

Good luck trying to get to the bottom of it, but would deffinitely go for the hearing tests.

Ah, selective hearing - many men are predisposed to this Grin DS can hear 'olives' from a thousand paces but will of course ignore me completely if i ask him not to bring stones into the house. I agree it's still important to get him tested though - they can have pitching issues. I think i read somewhere that boys hear lower pitch easier than higher pitch, which is why they often listen and obey dad, but seem not to hear their mum. Not sure how true this is, but it certainly rings quite true for all the boys/ men i know!

I had my ds2's hearing tested at the same age for the same reasons. He was fine but I was glad I jihad him tested anway.
