Nap routine - wwyd?

My dd is 11 months and down to one nap at 11:30. We are always on our way back from somewhere or out (have a busy 3 year old and we live in an upstairs gardenless flat so can't stay in frankly).

I don't mind that she naps in the pram as I can carry her upstairs asleep.. But when I go back to work I will have a nanny and I don't want her to carry the pram up as it's a risk too far...

Complication is my son will need collecting from nursery at 12.15. So what do I do?

She wakes at 7am and can't last beyond 11:30 for her nap at the moment. The nanny will just have to stay out over lunch won't she?

If I want her to nap in the cot I have to sleep train also... I need to sleep train for nights anyway so could do this all at the same time.

Shall I just go with the flow? It's the nanny thing that's bothering me. She will be 13 months when the nanny starts. And it's only 2 days a week.

Advice welcomed! TIA

I'd let your nanny carry your DD upstairs, which is what you do.

I carry her asleep in her pram up a flight of stairs - it's quite heavy and I'm not sure an employer should ask that as it is heavy and also there's always a danger of dropping it - which would be awful!

If she had only been asleep for five minutes i guess we could just carry her (not pram up)...

It's the whole second child thing fitting round a sibling...

If its too risky for a nanny, it's too risky for you, surely - its just as likely you'd drop the pram.

Does the carrycot part of the pram detach? If not, can you get a pram where the carrycot part does detach so your nanny only has to carry your DD up in that part?

Could you alter her sleep pattern a little? Dd3 is 14 months old now. She can't always manage waiting for an afternoon nap, so goes in her cot at 9.20am for a 20 min sleep. Then, we usually go out, have lunch at 12 pm & nap from 1-3. She has always gone to sleep in her cot, so it, works well for us but might be more difficult for you. If dd misses the morning nap (we are trying to drop it) I usually take her lunch to wherever we're going & she'll last until 12 pm.

I wouldn't want to risk the nanny carrying the baby up the stairs like that. Could you start taking her out of the pram & settling her back in her cot?

If I was your new nanny I would push back the sleep until we got back at 12.30ish. Most children that age start having a 1 long afternoon nap at that age about 12.30-3pm. Pushing back a nap only takes a couple of days if you push it back by 15 minute slots etc.

Thanks all.

Yes do you think when she is 13 months she can last a bit longer? Maybe to 12:30? That way she can have lunch before my son is fetched from nursery and she can go straight into her cot once they get back.

At the moment she simply can't stay awake past 11:30... But she is only 11 months.

And to flisspaps, yes it's probably not a risk that I should take but I can't leave her downstairs as we live in a block with other unknown tennants, and the door bangs loudly... The trials of living upstairs!

My ex charges who were 11 months were starting to be able to wait till 12.30 - we would start feeding lunch at 11.30am then slowly push it back to 12.
