Head banging at 12 months

I suppose I'm just looking for anyone elses experiences and maybe a bit of reassurance as I've never seen this before.

My 4th DC is 12 months. He's a happy soul, giggles and smiles at everyone. Just learnt to wave and does to all and sundry with a 'ya Not interested in walking yet but gets where he wants to be crawls and stands unaided.

However when dropping off to sleep he shakes his head back and forth quite hard (from side to side) in the cot, car or pram and always has. He will get up on his knees and rock ( like a baby who can't yet crawl and he can) when playing. He also rocks back and forth in his highchair quite forcefully or sits on the floor near the door and rocks so his back bangs against the door. Has anyone elses child been a head shaker\head banger? Did they grow out of it? Should I be worried? Thanks :)

Ps: HV a useless nightmare..

Ds had a very brief period of head banging which he quickly grew out of

Just reviving this thread as I have the same problem and I'm really struggling with it.

DS is 13 months and is generally very happy and contented. Over the last few months he has started deliberately banging his head on the floor and this week it has got a lot worse. Everytime I put him on the floor he crawls along for a few paces then stops, flings his head back then head butts the floor. He's getting a terrible bruise as we have wooden floors.

I saw the health visitor yesterday and asked her about it. She said to ignore it so I tried that once but he didn't stop and after 5 thumps I couldn't take it any more and picked him up. He then started crying so I put him down again and he starting laughing then crawled off and starting head banging again.

Please help.

DD did this for about a month from around that age. Shocking isn't it? And you feel really helpless. We have wooden floors too.

But it really is just a phase, honestly. It's as if they suddenly discover this new thing they can do, so they keep doing it! Try not to worry and maybe throw some rugs and cushions down until he grows out of it.
