10mo bumping his head multiple times a day, what's normal?

He's my DC2, not my PFB, but my DC1 was extremely quite cautious about standing/walking, so this is new to me.

Basically he can pull himself to standing, and cruise a little, but slips/falls/rolls on hard floors head-first repeatedly, several times a day at least, and I'm a bit worried. He is never concussed (DH used to play rugby so I know the signs), no blood, and nothing to trouble a GP, osteo wasn't concerned when she saw him, but I have no idea if this is normal or if he is doing himself long-term damage?

I'm not about to buy him one of those helmet things, or pad the floors, unless you tell me otherwise? He just seems to know no danger. I suppose I'd better brace myself for lots of trips to A&E when he's older, like I used to have to do with DH. Grin

Advice appreciated, TIA!

Poppy, my 9m is the same. He pulls to standing but is only just working out how to get back down to floor and only from lower objects. Most of the time he just lets go with both hands and has walloped his head loads. Same as you I don't think he is concussing himself but I did Calpol him when he bumped it near bed ime as I thought if that was me I would have a head ache. Am scared of him doing it on tiled kitchen floor as carpet and wood is bad enough. I have put travel cot up as playpen as can not leave a room he is in for even 5 seconds now.
I guess we have to keep sitting by them to catch until they work it out and hope they get stable quickly.
Am dreading him developing proper climbing abilities.
Sorry not advice really more of you are not alone Smile

Perfectly normal IME! DD1 was the same, she just launched herself across a room and then hit the floor 3 or 4 steps later. It didn't last too long, and she doesn't seem to have done any permanent damage.

DD2 was completely different- sensibly held tight to the furniture or our hands until she could walk confidently, so much less falling.

Thanks candr, we have a playpen downstairs, although he hates being in it, and is equally likely to whack his head onnthe bars of it! I could use the travel cot as an extra play pen in another part of the house though....good idea, and we have done that in hotels with both DCs successfully.

Good to know it's not just me!
