Hi mums, I have a 9 week old boy who was a fussy baby 4rm birth. But it seems as if it has gone worse. His pediatrician said that he duznt have colic, and I took him 4 a 2nd opinion as well... He can b peaceful 1 minute and then all of a sudden start screaming(no tears) for the next hour or so? He is on a soy milk because he had an allergic reaction 2 normal dairy protein formula. I'm all outta soothing techniques... Pls help, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure you've already tried this but do you use a sling? Baby wearing can be very soothing and means you can still get about.
Baby massage also an idea if crying worse after 6pm.
My DS was a fussy baby and criedvalot, it does get better, he's now 4 and still cries more than his brothers but think that might just be him :)

Italics fail!

if he's constantly crying for no reason, that is colic - that's the actual definition of colic!

I second trying a sling, it might make him feel comforted without you having to cuddle him all the time.

what about if he's also allergic to his soya formula? they reckon a lot of people who are allergic to cow's milk protein are also allergic to soya (because the protein string is very similar)

Reflux!! My dd cried and screamed relentlessly and until the gave her medication for silent reflux she didn't stop howling

Silent reflux for me too, went into the docs crying myself as I was so exhausted physically and mentally, was fobbed off at first though. Look it up and see if he has symptoms. Good luck.

Agree with the others, it could be colic or silent reflux. If it's colic, have you tried putting something like Dentinox in the bottles? It makes them aniseedy tasting but seems to work. Baby masage and sticking them in a sling might help too. Have a read of this on Colic on askdrsears too?

Don't know much about reflux, although I suspect that DS had it when he was a baby. Have you found the reflux supporters thread yet? If you search the MN archive you'll find loads more on reflux.

And lastly, think you might like this book and if it all gets too much get in touch with Cry-sis or get someone to have him for a bit, if that's an option.

It does get better Smile.
