12 month DD constantly on the go and doesn't need sleep!

I have always noticed that from very wee DD was always a lot more alert more of the time than the rest of my antenatal group of babies - and since they've become mobile it is very noticeable now to other people that she is just constantly "on the go" MUCH more than the others...

Other people are now commenting on this frequently.... so I know it's not just me thinking it.

AND she doesn't sleep - she has ONE 30min nap at some point in the day, and will only sleep about 10hours at night, waking about every 2 hours.

She's not overtired, as I made a point (for about 2 months) of getting her to have longer naps during the day - but this just meant she slept less at night....

In fact she rarely seems tired, and when she does get a little whingy, a little quiet time of about 10mins seems to rest her enough for another 6h hours... even when I'm desperately trying everything to get her to nap (cos I need one Grin).

I'm worried that she might have ADHD or something else wrong...

Can anyone reassure me on this?

OOoh DD is like that re layers - she only sleeps in a babygro, no blankets or sleeping bags as she gets too hot!
Daytime she has one fewer layer than me, not one more, and always has done. I made the mistake a few times when she wa really little of dressing her in the same number of clothes as me - and it always made her really grumpy and sweaty.

Yup same! I always got horrible looks and sarky comments from the other mums at baby groups when id bring ds out without a vest or a really thin jumper on....even when i tried to explain to them all....did no good. Obviously i am a terrible mothrr for not letting my baby overheat. :-\

littlewavylines so glad you wrote this. My DD is almost 6 months but she sounds very similar. We do bath/bedtime routine from 6ish but she doesn't usually settle until between 8 and 10, she then wakes every 2-3 hours. She's up at 6, and does take power naps in the day but only if in the sling. (used to nap in pram but if she does now it will only be a cat nap.) I have tried and tried to get her to sleep longer as keep reading about sleep and development, but I have tried everything other than CIO (which I won't do) and at the end of the day I started asking myself why I was getting so stressed as when she's awake she is happy, very alert, inquisitive, active and growing well, meeting milestones etc. So glad I'm not the only one.

I believe you littlewavylines! Your DD sounds just like DS at that age - he's now grown up. On a good day, he slept for an hour during the day and then woke up again. And that was him raring to go again. And as for a bath to help them quieten down in the evening; it just seemed to liven him up. You know if they are overtired, because they are tantrummy and grumpy. If your DD happy and smiley, she should be fine - though it's a lot of hours to fill when they are that age.

Phew! So nice to know I'm not alone in this (and that I'm believed! :) )

I believe you too - my ds was the same. Have a Brew goodness knows you'll need the caffeine!

Hiya, you don't say how old your dd is now but, just to reassure, my dd is 2 this week and now a very solid sleeper. It was only really when she started walking and running at just under a year that she started to need her sleep more.
She was always very energetic, demanding and in need of extra attention. Now most her age have kind of evened out so she doesn't stand out as especially hyper like.she used to!

Out of interest, does dd settle herself to sleep for naps and during the night?
