What time does your 1 year old go to bed at night?

Hi,

My LO just turned 1 recently and about a month ago she started waking up at 5am every morning (and still does!) Before that she used to wake up between 6am and 7am. (6am now sounds like a lie in!!)

These early mornings are killing me Shock and I am wondering whether she goes to bed too early (by 7.30pm like she has done for last six months) and therefore wakes up so early? Confused

I think you maybe need to look at when she naps in the day, possibly ready to drop a nap? My DD dropped her morning nap around that age.

What is her normal routine?

BlackOutTheSun · 28/06/2012 16:09

Dd gets up anytime between 730 and 9 only has one nap during the day for about 2 hours then goes to bed at 6pm

MrsTMT · 28/06/2012 16:27

She usually has a morning nap around 9am as she is already knackered by then (sleeps between 1/2 and 1hr usually) and then she has another nap in the afternoon around 2 or 3pm (sleep between 1 and 2 hrs)..

Maybe I should try to get her to stay awake until lunch and then after that have a longer nap then (after 12pm)..?

I think by 12 months my son had naturally amalgamated his naps into one long one at around 11-1.30 or thereabouts. Sometimes a bit later, sometimes a bit earlier. If he went any earlier he would catnap at around 4pm for half an hour but not often.

He goes upstairs at 7ish and is generally asleep by about 7.45pm so I think the bedtime isn't the problem really.

StarMeKitten · 28/06/2012 18:42

Yes I would have a go at pushing the nap back so its more in the middle of the day & maybe bring bedtime forward a bit.

My DD is now 17mo and sleeps 2 hrs in the day around 12.30-2.30, then 7-7 at night.

HandMini · 28/06/2012 20:36

I put my 13mo to bed at around 6.30 - 6.45. She naps once after lunch for 1.5 hours. Wakes around 7. I think your baby has quite a lot of nap time.

MrsTMT · 28/06/2012 21:55

Thanks for your advice! I'm going to try to change her nap time. It will be fun and games I am sure, trying to stop her having the morning nap for the first few days..!! [shocked]

Agree with that action plan, it's what we did with our now 17 mo ds when he started waking earlier. He just has 2-3hrs in pm now, and generally goes 7-7.15 til 6.30-7am.

He woke us up at 08.40 on Sunday though Shock We're hoping he's starting to understand Sunday mornings are for lie-in's Grin

Good luck

Think maybe 3pm too late for afternoon nap. Might take a week or so to nudge the morning nap later though. Maybe try moving it up 15 mins a day till you get to around 12ish.

My dd3 is 19months and sleeps 730-730 and has 1 nap from 1130 till about 2.

Have you got black out blinds in your lo's room. Pretty bright at 5am though I suppose you'll know that already Sad

Best of luck and wishing a lie in your way Smile

SlinkyB · 28/06/2012 22:11

I found it too easy for him to still have his am nap if we were at home (cot sleeper only) so tried to make sure we were out and busy for first few weeks. Nudging it slowly by 15 mins also sounds a good plan, give her time to get used to it. Took my ds a couple of months to drop it completely, but now if he has a morning nap, he refuses an afternoon one and is over-tired by 5pm-ish -are you listening mil?!

MrsTMT · 28/06/2012 22:29

Thanks again! :) Nudging the nap by 15 mins a day sounds like a good plan! I think trying to drop it immediately would not be a good idea.. She has started settling in with the CM this week as well, (as I am going back to work after next week) so it will be a bit of challenge but I am sure it will all work out in the end. :o (..or at least I hope so..)

Oh and mum23girlys, yep we have blackout curtains as her room gets the sunshine in the afternoon & evening and she would not go to sleep without them.
