14 month old having tantrums - HELP!

DD2 is now 14 months old and is having proper tantrums. DD1 had about 4 mild tantrums ever, so I am inexperienced in handling these.

We get fists failing, legs stamping, throwing self on floor with limbs akimbo, wailing, crying and very loud screaming, not to mention hitting/slapping/punching usually as a result of not getting something she wants or being told NO. When she isn't having a tantrum she is absolutely delightful child.

She is not (yet?) having tantrums with our CM - she is saving it all up for her family Confused

DD2 is currently getting about 5 teeth so she's having a hard time & I think recent rise in tantrums is probably linked to her feeling not her best, but I'd really appreciate any tips on handling these tantrums. She is so tiny!

Tips & advise sought and much appreciated.

The best thing to do might be to talk to your CM as she'll know your baby well - she might have tips on avoiding the frustration your DD seems to be feeling.

I know it sounds silly, but keeping a diary for a week can be helpful. Write when they're happening, what seems to be the frustration and any warning signs. Best to try and avoid them. Although - as you say - it's usually over something she wants, it could be happening if she's more tired than normal, or perhaps if something a few moments ago seemed to go wrong. Sometimes it can be linked to boredom. If the anger/annoyance is building up and you notice before it gets to tantrum level, getting her to hit a pillow can be helpful. It's getting out the frustration before it peaks.

Don't worry about her not having them at the CM's. Usually they save it all up for parents because they don't feel comfortable enough to have them in front of someone else.

Hope it can get sorted, and bless her for the teeth coming through. Have you tried a numbing gel?

Thanks - keeping a record is a good idea.
Yesterday was really bad, but she was troubled by the teeth, didn't eat much at all (so was hungry) and she was all over the place. yes we are using gel - looks like she has 5 teeth coming at the moment - 3 molars & 2 canines. Ouch!

She is still BF so respite often means me and NO ONE else will do. She just seems so young for this behaviour - it's taken us by surprise.

UPDATE - as of today DD2 is now having tantrums with CM. She refused all lunch, threw blueberries and had a huge full on tantrum. My guess is this bad bout is teething related.
