Cot to bed at 20 months

We've had to move our 20 month old from his cot to his bed because he was climbing out of his cot (even on the bottom level!) and was worried about him hurting himself. Personally, I feel he might be too young and we tired a nap this afternoon in the new bed (which we all made together) and he just played in the room not sleeping, so roll on bed time!!

Any tips on how to settle them into their new beds when they are still quite young, is closing the door and letting them play for a bit in the hope they will climb into bed a way to go? He's always been a good sleeper but can sometimes take a little while to get off and was always happy to play in his cot and then fall asleep.

Can you help before bedtime this evening!??

We put my ds2 in a bed at 16 months. At the time he was BF to sleep but now he gets put down awake.

I tuck him in and leave closing the door behind me. He usually gets up out of bed, plays a little then climbs back into bed and falls asleep 10/20minutes later. He's no distressed and he doesn't come out of the room so I just leave him to it and check him later.

Only a couple of times have I found him asleep on the bedroom floor. Grin

Take the toys away to make it less appealing to him. DS is 4 now so I am thinking back but we moved him at that age once I found him precariously balanced on the side of his cot Hmm. I think he got used to it within a few nights.I found him on the floor once or twice - including once under the bed which frightenened the life out of me because I couldnt see him in the dark Grin

Probably too late for bedtime, sorry! Was he in a sleeping bag in the cot? If so, you can use a sleeping bag in the bed as well - might make him feel a bit more secure. Also, we found it helped to turn the duvet sideways and tuck it in firmly both sides - helps stop them kicking the covers off when they're asleep, but also makes them a bit less mobile!
