Hi

My DS was 6 months this week he sits on his own, wants to be stood up alot, is developing well except he hasn't yet rolled back to front and just bloody well refuses tummy time to the extent im worried it'll delay crawling.

I dont even let him go b4 he's rolled over to his back, i can sit in front of him, give him toys ive even put him in front of tv in desperation but he still rolls over. If i put a cushion under him to stop him he cries until eventually hes contorted himself so much he must be in pain.

Sooo any ideas? How much should i keep pushing him?

Thanks

Tummy time didn't happen in this house.

DD1 screamed, I never remembered to try with DD2.

DD1 never really crawled, DD2 did. Both learnt to walk at 14 months.

Just more pseudo science to worry mums.

DS was a tummy time refuser, and I got so stressed because of the amount of emphasis put on it by HV/ paediatrician etc. but he really really hated being on his front. He also HATED being slung until he could sit up independently.

He sat up at 5 months, so around average I guess, never crawled, and took a while to get mobile (asymetrc bum shuffle started just before 10 months). He cruised at 13mo, walked at 15mo, so a bit late but nothing major.

He actually only started crawling (to get through tunnels at soft play etc) at around 20 mo, but now I think he's pretty much there, so didn't seem to have a lasting impact on his gross motor skills.

I am not going to stress about it with DC2, I can say that much

I so agree with Timandra. I feel that if you do not follow the official advice or guidelines you are a bad parent and set your child up to terrible things.
I can imagine that it could be very stressful for a new parent and not quite so helpful.

My Ds is 15 now, and I was told about tummy time then so its hardly a new thing!

I can believe how many people are advising the op to go against what the health professionals say!

If u ask any hv, doctor or surestart worker they would all recommend tummytime.

But do as u feel right op, I was only explaining my experience and I wish I had understood the importance of it then!

figgygal, my ds is 8months tomorrow and I had the same problem/worries! Like some othe posters, ds has bad reflux so was miserable on his tummy, also a nosy wee bugger who hated not being able to see.

He started rolling back to tummy himself at about 6.5 months, and now does it regularly as he learns to comando crawl. So a lack of tummy time hadn't held him back.

Hopefully ur ds will do likewise soon. It's very stressful this motherhood lark!

I don't know, but if it's the position he hates couldn't you replace it with other things that help tracking, core muscles etc? Just a thought.
