When she'll even kick the scissors away dangerously when she's asleep. General anaesthetic? She's 16 months, BTW. HELP!

Have you tried nail clippers?

madwomanintheattic · 18/06/2012 18:16

Four hands. Two to hold firmly and reassure (whilst she's asleep) and two to cut.

Or you just let them grow and curl and they eventually break off. Are they still soft enough to rip off with your hands after a long bath?

I sympathise. Later on you can bribe.

Nibble them after her bath when shes asleep if you genuinely cant do it with clippers. Clippers aren't dangerous

EBDTeacher · 18/06/2012 18:19

I have some baby nail clippers which it's really difficult to accidentally cut the baby with even if you slip.

I sit DS on the sofa with a chocolate biscuit Blush, put my left arm across his torso, hold his ankle with my left hand and do the quickest job on the nails I can!

It is a bit of a WWA wrestling move TBH. Grin

clippers, and act like the last thing you want to do is cut her toenails, you are too busy doing yours.

I remember I used to file DS's nails for a bit when it got really dangerous.

Nagoo · 18/06/2012 18:22

I have never used scissors to cut my DCs nails. The thought of it is terrifying.

I did it for a while when she was asleep.

When that stopped working, I put her in the highchair and let her watch a DVD that I save for only hair and nail cutting. The novelty of it helps.

There is still a lot of cajoling but it makes it easier.

I must try a clippers though.

RiskItForABiscuit · 19/06/2012 12:07

The scissors I use is a little blunt nosed one. Especially for babies and tis the norm in this forrin land. Clippers are hard to find.

BabydollsMum · 19/06/2012 12:37

Thanks all - finally had success with the pedicure (and manicure & fringe trim - get me!) when she was asleep last night. Perhaps I've been trying too soon after she'd gone down. Last night she was well and truly zonked. I don't use clippers myself, so I'm just not used to them, but evidently the scissors are fine when she's properly snoring away.

Not an ideal situation, but little one wont let me touch his feet for love nor money - hubby gets the same response too. Screams, shouts, runs away - you name it. However, I have a friend (a very kind one!) that has no problem getting the clippers out on his nails - says she's happy to do it as it encourages her little girl to comply after my little man sits so nicely (WTF???).
