Napping in cot - never managed it with my DS1 - sorry - he had all his naps in his buggy

screaming in high chair - how old is your DD - if she is very little - and the high chair is biggish then maybe stick with on your knee or bouncy chair
or if screaming because hungary = then put some finger foods on the tray while you are getting food ready?

Hi I gave up with a high chair it wasn't worth the hassle and naps in the cot never happened, we used pushchair. Sounds like mine knows her own mind, sleeping during the day never went well and she is 3 now and will nap in her bed! We always try to distinguish between bedtime and nap time which helps

Good luck!

DD is nearly 1 and has all naps in pushchair or being held.

Recently she started screaming as soon as I went to put her in the highchair. My Mum said "Distract her with a toy or something as you put her in". I thought that wouldn't work. I was wrong. Just pop a musical toy on the tray and she is too busy trying to get it to start crying Grin

Both mine had all their naps in buggy or sling - only the CM could get them to nap in a cot! And they both gave up the high chair at about 18 months and just knelt up to table on adult chairs. They seem to have survived.

If you really want naps in cot I suppose you could try and persevere with it cold-turkey. I started young - 8 weeks - so we got into the habit of it and now it's not a problem. Does it really matter that they're napping in the pushchair? You could just tuck the buggy somewhere quiet in the house if you don't want to go out.

Mine napped in their pushchairs too - actually works really well, as you can leave them in the hall / garden / kitchen if you're doing stuff around the house, or go out and about. You don't have to curtail days out so that they can get home for a proper nap in their cot, either.

If they were resisting going to sleep ("I'm tired but worried I may miss something") we found that putting the rain cover down for a few minutes sent them off - I assume it was a combination of extra warmth and slightly blurry view.

Try to make the highchair a fun place to be, whether that involves toys, musical instruments, finger food, treats or painting (we used to do finger painting in the highchair, as it limited the mess) - and give her lots of attention.
