2yo DD sometimes walks on tiptoes

She walked at about 13 months and I've noticed on and off since then that she sometimes walks on tiptoes. It's never particularly concerned me.

Anyway, a friend of mine stopped me in the street today and said "I hope you don't think I'm prying, but I saw DD2 walking yesterday and noticed she was on her tiptoes. You might want to get it checked out in case there's something underlying". The friend is a chiropodist so obviously has knowledge in the foot area.

Of course I was straight on the laptop googling 'toddler walking on tiptoes' and came across all sorts of info and advice.

I'd say she tends to do it more when she's a bit excited, she almost looks likes she's prancing sometimes as she sort of jigs up and down as she does it. She does it with and without shoes, so no pattern there. Developmentally, I have no concerns whatsoever. She's our second child and has pretty much met all of the milestones at the same time as her older sister, so I'm not worried about anything like developmental delays.

I'm planning to take her to GP for further advice, but just wondered what MNers think/know about this.

Thanks in advance

It's only a worry if she's doing it so much that it affects her ligaments. Keep a diary and see your gp if you're concerned. Most children do it but it can be a sign of other conditions, if you have other worries regarding her development.

It would sound more like a sensory thing than a physical problem. If she can walk and stand with feet flat that is a good sign. No harm in getting it checked out and especially if you noticed it getting more frequent in nature.

Agree with the Sensory thing, although most children do it a little.

Definitely no harm in recording it and getting it checked out :)

Thanks for your replies. Think I'll pop her to Gp at some point, but won't worry too much!
