Hi i'm new to mumsnet and this is my first thread! I want to know if my little boy is teething. He is 17 weeks old and has started drooling over everything! He also chews anything he can get hold of and has had nappy rash and flushed cheeks. I have read that these may be teething symptoms but i'm not sure. Has any one else experienced these symptoms? Thanks and i'm sure i'll get the hang of this soon :)

Maybe, maybe not. Welcome to MN....

At 17 weeks they put everything in their mouths as they have so many nerve endings there. They also drool a lot.

Again, flushed cheeks and nappy rash can just be down to other stuff too. Generally, you know it's teething when a tooth pops through. Grin

For the time being you just treat the symptoms (once you've ruled out any sort of underlying illness). So you can get good barrier cream for the rash, teething toys as well as cold flannels to suck, teething powders etc (I only ever tried gels as a last resort) and a bib for the dribbling!

I have 2 children and both behaved differently when they got their first teeth. Also remember that they cause quite a lot of discomfort before they even break through so you might have months of putting stuff down to teething before they eventually get an actual tooth.

Quite possibly. My son got his first two bottom teeth at 16 weeks and up to that point nobody believed me when I said I thought he was teething. They all said it was too early!

Some baby are born with teeth, some have them before 6 months, some not until 18 months. It's certainly possible to teethe at 16 weeks.
