Active or hyper active 4 year old DD?

My 4.5 year o,d DD has always been very active from being a newborn onwards really. At the back of my mind I've always been a little concerned where she fell on the spectrum of 'normal' but I'm now starting to get more worried as school approaches.

At her class today the parents were invited to stay and watch so she was obviously quite excited. However, after a few minutes all the other girls had settled down while my DD continued to hare around ignoring instructions and generally doing what she wanted. I have to admit after 45 minutes I could have curled up and died from embarrassment as all the other little girls generally lapped up the audience and behaved like princesses in the making while mine was constantly jumping around and playing the fool.

She struggles to sit still when eating, she rushes everything she does, she's always wanting to race or run everywhere. However, she sleeps well, she is quite bright for her age, can concentrate on books, can be very kind to her brother etc.

Can anyone tell me if this sort of behaviour sounds typical?

I was diagnosed as high function autistic later on.

Could just be a lively one. Mine is similar now age 6. Forever running everywhere, finds it hard to concentrate. Activities like dancing/gym - whilst all the others seem to join in, she would be running round the room at age 4.

I don't worry so much now as she's doing well at school. Still not great at concentrating, but picks up enough. I think her mind just works quickly and things become boring quickly.

I used to wonder whether she was hyperactive. But not so worried now. It has calmed down a lot over the past couple of years. Not so much in reception but afterwards, teachers seem to pick up on that she needs more attention than others to keep focussed.

She used to spend a lot of free time just leaping from sofa to sofa. Much less so now. Just seems to have a lot of energy and needs a lot of physical activity.

There are a few in the class like her. I don't think it's unusual, especially at reception age.
